Managed to get up yesterday mornin' and watched the sun start peeking her head out. After a cup or two of coffee, I grabbed the 'Tender set up with the 10" TC .22 Match barrel and 4x Redfield. Figured it'd be a great way to start the morning slipping along the creek after a bushytail or two.
Made my way into the hollow and stood watching, I could hear a few unsuspecting bushytails cutting in the trees. A short time later, I spied one slipping down a branch. When the 'Tender cracked, the 36gr Winchester HP found it's mark rolling the first squirrel of the morning outta the hickory. Without moving, I scanned the tree tops and caught another one skinning down. Second shot marked another squirrel for the pot!
I gathered the first two greys up and eased along trying to find the squirrel barking out front of me. Shortly thereafter, a large fox squirrel slid out and flattened out on a limb. A quick nugget shot and he rolled out for number three. Again, I held in place and found another grey perched and cutting. Another shot marked the fourth of the morning. I spied two more but never could get lined in for a decent shot.
Was a great morning to be alive and in the woods! Forgot how much fun chasing bushytails with a rimfire was! Since I tagged out during deer season, I figured a trip to the squirrel woods was in order and a fine way to hone my woodscraft and shootin'!
