A few months ago, I purchased my first Contender from Ed's here in OKC. While I'll do some plinking with it and may participate in some shooting sports at my gun club, I really bought it to be my primary hunting gun. This weekend, I'm taking the Contender on its first feral hog hunt.
Part of my hunting kit is my new Bog-gear tripod and pistol rest. Some of you may shoot on this kind of rest, but it's new to me. I used it for the first time this afternoon at the range. Normally, I shoot on those rock-solid concrete benches and sandbags, but today I shot from my new tripod. It's not as solid as those benches, but it's "solid enough". Normally, my 7-30W shoots about 2" groups. (The gun/caliber can do much better, but I'm really new at shooting pistols at 100 yds.) Today on my tripod, I shot only five rounds and put them into about 3 1/2". Well, there was one flyer about 5" away, but let's ignore that. Anyway, I am quite pleased by this little tripod and would recommend it to anyone wanting a steady rest in the field. Below is what it looks like.
