I resisted the Dark Kit Kat candy bars
« on: February 23, 2013, 01:52:47 PM »
I get a candy bar for dessert about once a week. Almost always a Kit Kat bar. I saw the newer Dark chocolate version as heresy. I tried one today. Surprisingly good. Great flavor. Only down side is a wierd after taste that I don't get with the right and honorable milk chocolate version.

i'll have to stick with the regular.
the good part of bacon is bacon grease
which a turkey is not furnished with naturally.
(and stay with the plain ol kit kat)

drop the breakfast meat and go all oatmeal.
not the instant packets with all the salt,
but the cardboard round box with just oatmeal.
a few raisins or some honey and you're set.
most healthy and nutritious breakfast you can have.
(there's always steak and eggs ;) )

I alternate Old fashioned Oatmeal with a whole egg and extra egg whites.  I just tried the Turkey bacon on a whim.

You're mistaken, Sir; wrong candy company. Kit Kat bars are made by Nestle.  ;D

With great sadness, i had to stop eating KitKats altogether. Ever since they made that disgusting comercial with the sound of people chewing with thier mouths open i just can't stomach the thot of eating them any more.

Dark chocolate is just one step away from eating plain cocoa powder.
If you're gonna eat chocolate, eat the good kind and enjoy it.
If you're not going to enjoy it, just go eat spinach.
Might as well eat a spinach Kit Kat.
I could eat Almond Joys all day (sometimes I do). Can't stand Mounds.

I have always been a fool for Snickers. Not the peanut butter, almond or the new 3X but the plain old origional. I'm around them every day as I work as a rep for the MARS candy company. Monday before last Thanksgiving I stepped on the scales at my Dr's office and just about doodied in my britches. I had hit 260 lbs, which is about 40-45 pounds over where I feel good and my clothes fit me right. I immediately put myself on a diet and Snickers, cinnamon rolls, french fries and a pile of other stuff I enjoy eating are not on my list. Right now I'm 31 pounds lighter but I still get my chocolate fix. Wally World has some protien bars called Supreme Protien. The peanutbutter crunch is to die for and is low carb. That's my breakfast every morning with my coffee. Sometime back my wife said oatmeal was good for me and I should eat more of it. Being a good husband that listens to his wife I came home the next day with a big batch of soft baked raisin oatmeal cookies.  ;D  She was not impressed.  ::)

That weird aftertaste was persistent and turned into a bad flavor, like they use in some cheap ice cream novelties. I will never get a dark kit kat again, and I now assume that the regular ones have the same chemicals, just better hidden. I think they just lost a long time customer. Kit kats were the last remaining candy bars that I would eat because they are not too sweet. Dang! I like a good piece,of chocolate once in a while.

Ranger99, I couldn't figure that out either. ::) Conan, I'm glad someone likes dark chocolate. The only dark chocolate I ever liked was Mounds. Even then I would rather go for the milk chocolate Almond Joy. I likes them almonds. I always liked my dad's way of thinking. He said " If you've got something fatning eat it all in one day, cause nobody ever got fat in one day ." ;)

I do like dark chocolate but don't often get it. Usually during the holidays. The chocolate that ruined me and spoiled me rotten was this Belgian chocolate shaped like sea shells. They were fabulous. That was years ago. I have had some Belgian chocolate since then, and it was also superb, but the shells were the most memorable. Buttery smooth with a soft texture and a great flavor.

I love dark chocolate.

With many new or current candy bars, the milk chocolate contains a less and less cocoa butter or chocolate liquor. It is be replaced with some oil or imitation flavor.
There was an article in Bloomberg magazine very recently that the low return for farmers that grow cocoa beans is causing many to quit and switch to other crops.
Obviously this is driving the price of cocoa beans and therefore chocolate up, which is one reason less and less real chocolate is being used in milk chocolate bars.
The result being either smaller bars or more artificial ingredients being added to keep the bars the same size.

As for your oatmeal the only thing missing is pouring some half and half on.

Oatmeal has been my favorite hot cereal since I was old enough to remember.
When I started making it my self, I found out the longer cooking type did seem to taste better than the quick or instant types, at the same time I also found that there are brands that taste as good or better than Quaker and are cheaper, or more expensive.

On a sad note, I found out recently, that with flake type oatmeal the only thing that really separates the instant and quick cook types from the longer cooking type is that the quicker ones merely take a longer cooking type and cut or shred the pieces so they absorb water and cook more quickly.

As a kid I was a meat and potato eater. Over the past few years I've developed a sweet tooth. Not the best thing that cold happen for my waist line.  ::)  Of late I've had a couple chocolate binges.
