SP101 3" barrel

would the ruger SP 101 with a 3" barrel be a good choices for CC i picked up a XDS but i would like to get a wheel gun too let me know what you think

I had one, it carried well, and recoil was very manageable. Problem was I couldn't hit anything with it. I got rid of it, thinking it was me. About a year later I bought another SP101, this one with a 2" barrel and hammerless. Love it, very accurate. Now I'm thinking about a 3" SP101 again!

I really like my 2" barrel SP101.  It's surprisingly easy to shoot accurately, especially in single action.

My everyday carry gun is a hammerless 2" SP101.  Love that gun.

I had one for a while.  Handled the recoil of hot magnums better than a J frame.  It's a good weight for belt carry.  The stock DA trigger pull was quite heavy and the accuracy was not as good as I desired.

 I had a 2" version back in the '90s. It was a nice handling revolver, but the ammo I used made a 3ft muzzle flash! ha. I later used ammo by Corbon that was advertised as being loaded with a flash suppressant powder. By then, I had traded the SP101 off for a 4" Mod 19 or 66, I forget. I found that all 357 snubbies are a handful with full blown magnum ammo. The easiest carrying and surprisingly accurate 3" I ever had was a S&W Mod 60 with adjustable sights. I gave it to my SIL after I had a surgery on my shooting hand, ha. I admit, I am tempted now, after several years of healing, to try a 3" S&W 696 in .44 special. Just something about a midsize , 5 shot revolver that feels right, even though they are tough for me to pocket carry, etc.  Good luck to you Pard

I have two the  3 in variety.I flat love them, I usually shoot hot 38 Special Plus P(CorBon DPX) and the weight helps to soften recoil. HTH, Doug

Probably the best you can buy if a carry .357 is what you want, IMO.  I've studied the charts but can't remember the specifics, but a 3" is definitely more that a 2".  It's been said by many that the .357Magnum is the best personal defense gun ever invented.

I carried a 3 inch SP for several years until I picked up a Kimber. I still carry it sometimes because I just plain like the gun. My wife is eyeing it for her ccw after she takes the class so I guess I will be in the market for another one.

I have a 3" SP 101. Heavy little thing, I can't shoot it that well. Bites my thumb in 357. Now carry a glock 26. Lots easier. Shoots very good groups to 25 yards, lays flat inside the pants holster, 10 shots, weighs a little less. I held on to the revolver mode for long time (30 years). I changed.

I have had 2  3" M36 S&Ws that I really liked.  Shot +P+ 38s fine for duty carry, accurate with all loads, practice and duty. Only Ruger SP 101 I came across was a SS 4" w/a bobbed hammer I got in a trade and returned it ro owner after no takers.

It would depend on how you wish to carry it and how much weight you can stand. For a small gun it is heavy same as a all steel J frame. The 3 inch bbl is a tad long for pocket carry also. The lighter Ruger LCR and the S&W 340 pd both weigh less and fit a pocket better. People look at the size of a gun with out consideration of the weight , buy it then afer a few hours of carry it gets heavy and soon it is not on them anymore. Don't ask how I know this  .
