Johnny
Johnny was a soldier who never fought a foreign war
But he wore the uniform here at home where he became a star
From his Southern home He traveled north where ever he was sent
Seemed like misery just followed him everywhere he went
He lost a brother at Vicksburg and another in Alabam
Then Johnny was sent to Gettesburg to give those folks a hand
Things got worse and at times, Johnnys heart would cry
It happened each and every time a friend would fall and die
As time went on Johnny lost a lot of friends along the way
Everywhere he was sent, some folks didn't want him to stay
His uniform no longer new began to show some wear
But he proudly wore that uniform, to each and every affair
Then as the years passed it became more ragged and torn
But Johnny was still very proud of the grey that he had worn
Then one day the news came that Johnny had passed away
And on his headstone beneath the stars and bars it does proudly say
1861 to 1865 JOHNNY REB CSA
