Ousooners1baby... you could buy the Survivor .45/.410 and then bob the .410 choke off and D&T for a rear peep and front ramp... this would probably be cheaper than going the other way... you could get a nice nickel finish this way also... you can swap out the stock to any that you have a preference for... the Williams WGRS peep and One-Piece Fire Sight ramp is a good combo. It would make a pretty sharp rifle with 18" barrel. I have been considering doing this myself.

I too am looking at 45 Colt for my second monoblock and in doing so I noticed that Green Mountains barrel is .454 and 1:38 twist.  Brownells shows a Shilen with .451 and 1:16 twist.  I wondered at the time if Green Mountain didn't take some of their muzzle loaders cut them off and sell them for centerfire barrels.  Shilens barrel is twice the money of the Green Mountain.  PC

Are you serious?  I would give you $50 just to explain to me what you just said to do.  Plus explain what kind of machinery I would need. ;) Oh yeah, I have figured out the drill and tap part.
Thanks, Jer

Piney,   The Green Mountain blanks are .452 groove /  1-16 twist, The 20" X 1.00 " is $ 34.95 + frt.  The longer 25" blank is 1.25 dia. and $ 51.95 + ,  If these are not what you seen online look under Raw Gunsmith Blanks.
I have bought several of them in .357, .401, .430, .452 and they are nice barrels. I built a 45 ACP liner barrel with one of them and it could be a 45 Colt as well.

Jedman, you are right.  I went back and checked again.  I think that the 45 acp label threw me.  I used a Green Mountain gunsmith barrel for my first monoblock in .357 and so far I think it will work OK.  Somehow I got it in 1:20 twist which gives me some concern.  Thanks, PC

OK... so you buy the readily available Survivor .45/.410... it is a 20" barrel that you can get in blued or nickel (personally I'm going with nickel, to mate with a 20" .410 Tamer barrel and .22 K-Hornet barrel set)... this barrel comes with a special choke to make the .410 function in the rifled .45 barrel... so you cut of the last 2" of the barrel to get back to a pure 18" .45 LC barrel, and then recrown (sounds difficult but it is not)... then it is a matter of a single screw drill and tap at the muzzle to take a ramp... and I recommended the One-Piece Williams ramp (see link below)... and drill and tap two holes at the chamber end for a Williams WGRS peep assembly (see link below)... it you don't have the tools or confidence to do this yourself... it is a quick easy and inexpensive job for a gunsmith.
