Now...before u all jump into the debate. Read: New England Arms; not New England Firearms. New England Arms seems to have a few nice hunting handguns. But the price is outrageous. I think Ruger makes an equally impressive if not more impressive handgun for half the price. Is anybody gonna pay $1,000 + for a handgun when u can get another that is just as good? If anybody has opinions, please, let them be heard.

I take it you own the Encore or G2 Contender series, right?

I'd be semi-leery about taking a very expensive piece out in the boonies.  I'd stick with my good mass-produced pieces, myself.

Have a link to thier site?  I'm aware of New England Arms but as a seller/distributor of very high grade European firearms.  They show no handguns on thier site.  You've got me curious.

Gentleman, I sincerely, absolutely apologize for my incredulous error. The name of the handgun isn't New England Arms...it's Freedom Arms. I apologize. Yes, it's Freedom Arms I believe that are incredulously expensive.  They seem to be nice guns...the site is: www.freedomarms.com

in my opinion there worth every penny they cost. The quality is on a different level then any Ruger. I dont own one but have shot many and there every thing a custom is and in some cases more. I guarentee you that if you wanted a gun as finely fit as a FA from a custom smith youd pay alot more then FA is getting for one. As for using them in the field I have quite a few custom sixguns and everyone of them goes in the field and is shot extensivly if i wasnt going to shoot them i sure wouldnt pay the money one cost. In guns like everything else you get what you pay for.

Ok, this changes everything.  FA's areindeed in a nother class above Rugers.  Don't get me wrong, I love my Rugers and will w/o a doubt buy more.  The FAs however have that extra attention to detail.   Kinda what a custom shop Ruger would be but these are all std production pieces.  More expensive yes, but after all, you get what you pay for.  I've been tempted before to purchase one of the FA's but went with a Ruger becasue of a weak wallet (impulse buy).  Would they find thier way into the woods with me?  Most certainly!  They're designed and built to be used!  Just how much is gonna happen to them?  No different than using a pricey Bowen Ruger in the woods or a top shelf rifle/shotgun for hunting.

I buy guns to hunt with. I would take any gun out, no matter the price. I have a Shiloh Sharps (Not a handgun) that cost over $2400.00 and I take it out deer hunting. If I take it out I sure would take out a $1200.00 pistol. JMHO.  :D

But I am like Chris and use my Encore and Contenders for hunting.
