Decent deal for 7-30 barrel?
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:06:47 AM »
A local shop has a 15" stainless steel heavy barrel from the TC Custom Shop. Chambered in 7x30 Waters, the barrel is outfitted with Leupold silver rings/base, a Burris 2x7 32mm scope, and Butler Creek Lens Caps. The package comes with a T/C walnut forearm, a spare Pachmayr rubber forearm, an RCBS 3-Die Set, and 20 Primed Nickel Plated Brass Cases. Its a consignment package and they are not willing to part. I have a super 14 in 7-30 waters but would like to play around with the extra 100fps or so in velocity and I only use a 2x TC scope so that would but upgraded as well. I dont need the forends or dies so they could be sold off.

The question is if the price is worth it. I can't seem to find anything to compare and see. The package deal is $450 and it is of course non-negotiable. Thanks!

The package as you described is probably worth the asking price if all items are in good condition.

The problem I see is your anticipating an additional 100 fps from the 15" over the 14" barrel.
I think you will only see about 25 fps gain in this barrel over the 14" you already have.

Wow, thanks for the response. That is definitely not what I was hoping for as far as velocity gains go. Hrmm it isn't looking all that promising as an addition nor as a project to sell the non-needed items. Any other opinions?

I am thinking that I would spend the money on a good scope.  2 X it OK for hunting in brush but lacks a lot when shooting at targets or at any distance like that caliber is capable of.  Just my thoughts and worth all you paid for them.
