New sportster .22 WMR
« on: February 24, 2013, 10:58:02 AM »
Just stopped in dicks an they had a sportster .22 mag on the shelf callin my name. I looked all over it and was tryin to talk myself out of it, but I couldn't help myself and bought it. I like the open sights on it. I think I might still go with a scope though what rings and scopes do you guys use on yours?

VERY NICE!!  Congrats!!

I have two, one is like yours, that one has a Simmons Master Class 6x18x40 Side Focus scope. ($59 at Natchez)

My second is a Versa-Pak, shortened to 16'' and re chambered to maggie. That one has a Leupold Rim-fire 2x7 scope.

Both are very good shooters! The one like yours likes 50g HPs from federal. Shoots them under 1"at 50 yards. The VP likes older 34g HPs from Winchester and shoots them into a inch at 50 yards.

Good luck with yours!

I currently have a Nikon Pro-Staff 2-7x on mine with Leupold Rifleman Rings- Medium height. I had a 4x Nikon Prostaff on it before I bought the 2-7x. Both of these are the "older" Pro-Staff scopes. Not vintage by any stretch but not the newer ones they sell now. When I went to sight in/test ammo I discovered my first choice, CCI Maxi-mag 40 gr jhp shoots similar to CW's, right under 1" at 50 yards. Great buy, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Congrats! Hope you enjoy your new rifle! I have a Leupold 4x28 Rimfire scope on Weaver rings on mine, it's my grab and go woodchuck rifle. Winchester 40 grain JHP or FMJ shoot the best and give great results on woodchucks. Good Luck, Scott B.

Thanks guys I love It. I finally got out to shoot it today still open sights shooting 45 grain Winchester HP's at about 30 yards I was shooting a nice little 3 inch group. I think I'm gonna pick up a 2x7 Nikon and a couple boxes of ammo and see what I can get out of it.

I have the same rifle along with an extra .17 HMR barrel.  I like CCI 40gr HPs..but the rifle likes WW 40gr HPs a bit better..  I have a Ruger 4x32 scope on the rifle..makes a good combo for hunting..
