Bow Mag
« on: February 10, 2013, 12:21:22 PM »
Anybody else seen these. They scew onto an arrow shaft and hold either a .38 or .357 Mag cartridge which then fires on impact. Pretty wicked but I'm not sure  they'd be legal here in Missouri.  They even have one you fill with #7 shot for use on small game. Take a look at both videos.

What possible purpose would that serve?

If you have hit your target with an arrow it is now going to bleed out... and be quite dead. What improvement is that?

If you are in fact an idiot and believe you can kill something deader with a bullet than a broadhead, well, I am at a loss for words here.

Is this like a shaped charge for imbeciles? Filled with bird shot? The arrow having contacted the target will indeed go ahead and finish the job. Allowing a shot shell to fire at impact accomplishes notta.

Are these things sold with a roll of Sham Wow?

I really don't know of any place they'd be legal. However I can see their purpose on hogs as hogs are quite dangerous and a quick kill is better than waiting for one to bleed out and possibly get to you before it does. Still though, if not legal then what's the purpose other than being a gimmick? Watch the videos to see how they work.

Oh I watched that stupidity. Silent? Stealthy? They forgot about the zombies ::) . An arrow in the skull would have dropped those hogs equally. Don't think it was a coincident those hogs were all head shots. A .357 mag in the heart of a hog will not drop them like a stone any more than an arrow would. Gut shot is gut shot arrow or bullet.

Gimmick of the lowest order. As asinine  as putting an arrow into a .410 shell. Bows propel arrows just fine and guns fire bullets quite well thank you very much. These damnable things are as offensive as the drug tipped arrows.

Oh....yet another must have for the gadget crowd.....

BTW...if you live in NY, are you limited to only 7 arrows to comply with the law????

Interesting but I also don't see the point. They have similar things for spearfishing to use in shark defense but I think it just makes a person feel better about being in the water with big fish with lots of teeth.

I can't imagine screwing that much weight to the tip of an arrow and getting much of a workable hunting trajectory out of it.  Only use I can imagine is a head-on shot everytime at 10 yards.

Wouldn't a lot of the energy of the firing of the bullet go into blowing the arrow and apparatus back the other way?  That would only serve to make less velocity and penetration for the bullet.

I would like to see some post-mortum findings on bullet performance.

im not sure how that would work. i guess it would be akin to shooting a animal with a revolver that had the barrel taken off at close range?jus the chamber and no barrel.not sure how the penetration would be.

now if you could get me some of those explodeing tips like stallone used in the last rambo movie, now we talking hog killer!

I would expect wounded and lost animals.  It appears the penetration is very shallow.

How would you explain that abomination to the CPO? Gun, Bow, Destructive Device?
