New kind of factory stock set?

I was at the big gun shop in southern IN today and they had two new 500 S&W with the same stock sets that I had never seen before.  They were low comb laminated with the open cell style recoil pad, and they looked slimmer than a standard low comb pallet wood stock.  The color was a kind of brownish burnt orange with dark brown or black highlighting the change in layers of the lamination.  I don't think they were made by Boyds, they didn't have the same look of quality.

I liked the shape but I thought the color was dreadful.  I just realized the color may actually work with deer hunting here in IN, the leaves are always down when deer season starts.

Has anyone else seen this stock set?

I have a couple factory cinnamon thumbhole lam sets and a MC pallet wood laminated set.  This was low comb (open sights) and looked nothing like a cinnamon lam made by Boyds.  When I saw it my first thought was "what is that"?

Yah, they made a non-thumbhole for a while.  Think Quick and some others have posted picks of them.  Kinda like the blond lams.

My 2004 PW lam is kind of rough, it seems like they did not use enough glue between the layers. NOTHING like the pretty colored lams we have. The thumb hole lams are so smooth and nice the pw lam is ok but nothing fancy. And if you get stuck hunting in the rain there are glue lines that really get defined. So I just think it (mine) is a low quality lam.   thejanitor

Well I'm not too sure exactly what I have.  A number of years ago I bought a HB .223, had a lam stock with a clear finish and the wood was completely natural.  Ugly!  I brought it home, stripped the finish, applied walnut stain mixed with alcohol to carry it into the wood, then finished it with 10 coats of Tru-Oil rubbed on a wee little bit at a time, buffed with 4/0 steel wool between coats.  Made the grain and the lam lines just jump out.  Wish I had a pic to show.  GW
