Red Ryder
« on: June 29, 2012, 02:46:05 PM »
Last week I got to spend some time with my 7 year old grandson, shooting his Red Ryder BB Carbine. Daisy is missing a big market. They need to produce a adult sized Red Ryder, so fathers and grandfathers can shoot along with the youngsters.

Not sure what ya talking about when you say full size. It has the same length of pull as a Remington 700. I have one setting here in the computer room and just measured it to be sure.

It belongs to my youngest grandson. It has never had bbs in it as he likes to "pow" it when he comes down. He has another smaller Daisy up at his house that Matt lets him shoot sometimes.

Wyatt keeps at me to load it up and lets go shoot it like we do his 22 rifles but I told him once a bb is dropped into it he can't ever again pow it in the house. The OAL of the Red Ryder is pretty much identical to my Rossi M92s with 20" barrel.

You can buy a upgraded "red Ryder" from Chief AJ. It has a bit longer stock and upgraded springs. Mine shoots better than the Walmart red Ryder I bought my granddaughter.  ;)

Just pick yourself up a Daisy 499B, billed as "the worlds most accurate bb gun", its a bigger, fuller version of a western style bb gun. Or go a hunting for a used 1894 or 99 champion. Those are older nicer lever guns than what's produced now. As a kid, my 99 champion was widely heralded as a long range sparrow gun, amazing what 300fps and 1ftlb of energy could do to a 30 yard english sparrow. So I recall anyways.  J

Any source for a shortened stock?  Too long for my grandson.

Get the Buck model for the littler kids and a RR for yourself, then for them when they grow. Lots of (pun intended) rounds on one fill, cock and go compared to so many others.
That funny, goofy angle on the RR butt ought to get changed, but I havent yet.........I targeted my WM 'new model'RR against the nicer looking '94 version but the RR grouped better! and was WAY easier to load. Shoot odd targets of opportunity on a walk-about and learn to shoot with both eyes open instinctively at various distances; it dont get much better than that!

That's the smaller one I mentioned that Wyatt has. In fact I got three of them for all three of the boys to shoot on our range and got the Red Ryders for Wyatt and Joey who is our oldest son's boy so Wyatt has two bb guns and two 22 rifles and this past CHRISTmas his brother Bradley also got a 22 rifle like one of Wyatt's. When Matt lets them shoot all three go up to the range. The rest of the time they reside here under my control.

i've got no idea when i bought
this little instrument. 20+ years
i'd say. keep it oily in the oily spots
and it keeps on going. it was bought
specifically for the stray dogs and cats
to cause evacuatus interuptus.
