Coleman Propane stove repair
« on: February 08, 2013, 12:55:45 PM »
I have a two burner Coleman propane camp stove.  I have only used it for a couple of hunting seasons.  I have used Coleman products for years and never had any problems.  The problem with this one is when the propane bottle is attached  (tightly) and the first or primary burner is ignited with a propane lighter there is a weak flame on the burner and there appears to be fire around the valve.  The valve appears to be tight.  I attempted to dis-assemble the unit but I was leery about putting pressure on the brass retaining nuts on the valves.  I have attempted to contact or locate Coleman repair centers close to my address in Eastern Oregon without much success.  I really don't want to spend too much money on the repairs as replacements aren't that expensive.  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for answers.

something stopped up?
bottle too cold?
did you try a different bottle?

as a last resort, i've bought several
older white gas stoves at pawn shops
and thrift stores for 8- 12 dollars and
bought the little propane adapter that
looks like a 90-degree propane torch
and it's worked out fine.

You might have hit on something.  I haven't dropped it or banged it around.  The next time I get the stove out and check it I'll just bet a bug got in the apparatus.

Thanks for the reply!

well, if nothing else, you may check
around for a cheap one like i do and
go that route. i've all but quit using
the white gas for camp gear. it was
scarce here for a while and when it
got to where it could be had what i
bought was old and stale, so now i
use propane stoves and lanterns
and coal oil lanterns.

I found it!  I was reassembling the stove, I had checked and cleaned all the orifices, etc, the last thing was the burner and I discovered a spider's nest!  No spider or younguns' just a small solid web.  Cleaned it up and fired it up.  Worked great.

All my Coleman stuff: Stoves, lanterns, heaters, etc., are all propane.  Wouldn't go any other way.
