Because of where I now live and trap I need to make so trap changes.My wife and I inherited a house and moved recently.It's in better mixed fur country than I was in before.More coon,red fox,mink,muskrats along with a great coyote population.The hitch in this is more pheasant hunters ie dogs.I can avoid a lot of them by where I set up for canines,my locations.I never was a fan of offset jaws for canines except cast jaw traps,Sterling MJ-600 or Circle C(by Tom Beaudette).My go to trap was a Bridger #2 with regular jaws in theft areas.I don't have bobcats.It's mostly pasture land with crop fields and hayfields up along it.It is dotted with sloughs,hundreds of them.The coyotes run the sloughs hunting.I can't trap the slough edges because of the bird hunters.I can catch the coyotes on the travel ways between sloughs ,saddles in ridges and where trails converge coming in to dugouts.
1.I need a trap with a jaw face that's paw friendly on non targets(dogs) that will also hold big boar coon as there is sign of these on the coyote/fox travelways.
2.I need a somewhat economical trap,I'm sure I'll have higher trap theft in this area.
3.I would prefer something not 4 coiled so my wife can set them without trap setters(also so my old arthritic carcass can set them).
4.Am I better off with say a Sleepy Creek 1 3/4 offset or the BMI K-9 Wolfer that BMI is coming back out with(because of the wider forged jaw face) or taking a number 2 regular jaw and having outside lamination added,ie Duke,Bridger,Victor.
Any experience on this would be appreciated.
I'm also going to all disposable stakes as I think they are harder for thieves to pull.Pogo's,Dirt Dogs,Wolf Fangs or High Desert Spears.Thanks Bill
