The chamber walls on most H&R tend to be very thick because of the large outside diameter. Besides they are amply strong 'strong enough') as they are made to withstand the same pressures as other guns made to SAAMI specs.
Remember 'internet advice' shares a lot in common with 'free advice'. Both are worth what you payed for them.

honestly, I think the walls are so thick on smaller calibers because they want to use the same diameter blank, whether it's a 12 ga. or a .223 rem.  The rear chamber area is basically the same regardless of the model, so it probably keeps them from having to have multiple widths of action.  The barrel is basically just a tube, but the action has several critical part tolerances.  They simply went to bull barrels later for rifle loadings to once again reduce lathe time.  If you are going to just put a scope mount on and not sights, it works well.  ;)
