Target Vs. Vets

Subject: Target vs. Vets

And I really loved shopping there, darnit! (Cindy)

Vietnam Veterans Association

Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud sponsor of the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event.

We received the following reply from the local TARGET management:
"Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the arts,
social action groups, gay & lesbian causes and education."

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in
general do not meet their donation criteria, then something is really
wrong at this TARGET store. We were not asking for thousands of
dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial
remembrance. As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate
headquarters and their response was the same. That's their national
policy.

Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow the Marines
to collect 'Toys for Tots' at any of their stores. And during the
recent Iraq deployment, they would not allow the families of employees
who were called up for active duty to continue their insurance coverage
while they were on military service.

I wonder if they realize that it was the blood of veterans that earned the freedom they have to be successful and prosperous in a land of free enterprise...

It's probably a good thing that I wasn't in her shoes. Support gays and lesbians but won't support the Viet Nam Veterans or the employees insurance that were called up to active duty. I never shopped there much any way and I sure as #%ll will not buy anything there from now on. I also think Wally World has a similar policy that won't support veterans groups. :(  :?  :x

Wow, I thought everyone had heard about this lie along time ago, guess not.  It has been passed from board to board.   They address it here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/target.asp

Guys I have been known to pass these emails on expecially if they get my dander up which these type are designed to do. A lot of times I will check snopes out and find out it is a hoax and not post it. Other times I do not use maybe the right search words and it will not come up only to find out it is a hoax after I post it. Saving the snopes site is not a bad idea to use when you are in doubt though some may be new and get by them or you may use the wrong search words but it cannot hurt to check them out first. Jim
