British Mortar
« on: March 25, 2013, 03:59:49 AM »

Another Mortar from the Rotunda collection which was obtained in 2009.
Although still being researched it is believed to be British, it has similarities to a pattern of English bronze mortars produced from around 1700.
It is 42'' long and has a calibre of 13 inches.

How would that thing not just shatter that tiny end of wood during recoil?

I think we can say that it sits on a display stand rather than a mortar bed. A mortar that size would require a larger & far more robust bed.  Adrian
