Old H&R question
« on: March 17, 2013, 09:17:27 AM »
Found this 10ga on line it looks like my 12ga 1900 guy says there is no letter at the begining of the serial numbers. Any thoughts?

I don't see a vintage 10ga in the BBGV, it may be a newer barrel, maybe a model 176 fitted to the older frame, might also be an accessory barrel that was fitted later, a look at the underlug would tell ya.

H&R made a 10 ga. back before WW II but not in the 1900 model.  IIRC, they were marked "Reinforced Breech" or something to that effect.

You'd need a "reinforced shoulder" to shoot that thing. :o
I bet it kicks... just a little.

the only reason I was thinking about was that 10ga is the only ga I don't have so it would complete my H&R NER shot guns

'bout five years ago a friend wanted for me to do some work on his 10ga...was having ignition problems..replaced the hammer spring for him...When I returned it he asked "will it fire now"...."fired 6 times inna row for me"..his eyes got big and he got silent cause he knows I'm disabled..I could see the doubt forming...With my 20ga. barrel on it that is i replied...the dern thing locked up tight(was floppy when opened) and I swear that profiled 20 ga. barrel looked like a soda straw a laying in the middle of that 10 ga. forearm.. :o
