Limit to how many times you can buy BP???
« on: January 01, 2003, 02:05:43 PM »
At our last CAS shoot it was mentioned that a new law has gone into effect that limits the number of times you can buy BP in a year.  No limit to the amount just the number of purchases.  Anybody know anything about this?

I saw something bout this on another wire. It has to do with professional use not personal.

That was the word over there.

Cut's, I'm hoping that that statement is either misreporting, or a misstatement, that's the first time I've seen it as being other than 50# posession, or 50# per order/posession.

I know Mason! I am part of a family of five, who all compte BP in disciplene or another. Five people can go through one heck of a lot of BP in a year! I used to go through 25 pounds a year, all by myself! Now, I'm not going ot be shooting nearly as much.  :(  And some of my pards in clubs will not be shooting at all because they can't afford to order larger quanities and don't have safe places to store large orders in thier homes.

In the end, this is going to be a back door method to cut into folks engaging in the shooting sports just like always.....one little cut at a time! :(

Butler,

What we have is two different answers to the same question from the same agency. I've visited the ATF website and found nothing that contradicts Agent Johnsons' remark concerning ordering more than 50 pounds in one year.

The bottom line for me, and I know this isn't the proper forum for this, is that given the ATFs historical record of enforcement I'm not going to take chances on it. The ATF has destroyed the lives of a lot of good people over a 200.00 tax and they have even killed people over such things. I find myself in the same position as "The Patriot", I am a parent and can't afford to take the chances with the lives of my family.

I was deeply suspicious about this "safe Explosives act" when it was first brought up in congress and fought to stop it, but I failed. So too did the NRA. Particularly now, in it's reporting of the consequences of the act, which may end up costing some poor Joe his freedom or his life someday. However, I recall several years back after the Columbine massecure that then President of the NRA, Wayne La Pierre, stated in an interview on television that he would agree to more restrictions on the availability of Black Powder. I was enraged that our NRA president would say such a thing and let the NRA know in no uncertain terms how I felt.

Unfortunately, those of us who are BP affectionados are a real minority in the shooting fraternity and our voices went unheard. We are probably going to suffer the same fate as a lot of Class Three Weapons Permit holders. We will slowly fade from the scene. In the end, this is the desire of the anti gunners and this stuff is one of the thousand cuts to our freedoms. :(

Ok, I'm off my soap bax and promise to keep this stuff in the political forum where it belongs in the future!
