Redhawk Vs. Super Blackhawk in 41 mag
« on: February 19, 2004, 04:46:40 PM »
I have my mind set on a Ruger 41 mag.  Know I just have to make a decision as to what model I want.  I definately like the s/s and the 7.5 in. barrel.  But while looking for a 41 I have come across several redhawk that are new or slightly used.  Also I have found the SBH hunter, but not for the price I found at a local shop.  He would have to order it and because the SBHH is a special production run. I would have to wait from 3-6 months.

So guys I need your help.  Do I go for the Redhawk, pay more to get a SBHH Now or do I order a new one and wait PACIENTLY.

Thanks for the help

Go for the RH. Personally I'd way rather have it. Just can't get past the UGLY of that SRH. While the world by now knows I'm sure not a real Ruger fan the RH is one I could see me owning. Maybe in a five shot conversion to .475 Linebaugh or .480 Ruger? Yup I could see me with one of those.

either are good guns. The .41 redhawks are a little tougher to find as there discontinued.

I found one locally and seriously thought about buying it.  It had the bead front sight, v-notch rear sight and a 4x Leupold mounted on it.  $599 seemed a little steep though.  Is this a reasonable price?  I'd rate it excellent.

RR, I'd go with the SBHH in .41Magnum. There is a real chance they may never be made in the caliber again. It is easy to use with or without the scope. If the regular plow handle doesn't fit your mitt, it's fairly simple to put a Bisley grip frame, hammer, and trigger on it. It's also a little easier to get a better trigger than with the Redhawk. Just my take on the subject.

Seems a little steep, doesn't it? However, they are getting pretty scarce. You say the condition is excellent. The front and rear sights are extra cost from the stock set-up. The 4x Leupold isn't cheap either. I'd snap it up if I could, but it isn't on our "safe" list here in Kommiefornia.

Joe Mack, what do you mean by "safe" list?  I've heard that the PRK has a lot of very nonsensical gun laws.  Is it against the law to own this gun in Kali?  Just curious.

Actually, it's extortion. Manufacturers must submit x number of guns of each type they want approved (even different barrel lengths are considered another firearm by the state) along with a ludicrous payment for the tests. The whole thing can be found on the Ca. doj websitehttp://justice.doj.ca.gov/safeguns/safeguns_new.taf

If it isn't on the list, you can't have it new. The private party purchase is another whole ball of wax.

Unlike GB, I am a Ruger fan. I don`t have one in .41 mag. but if I find one that is to cheap it will probibly follow me home, guns just tend to do that. I would recomand the Black hawk. It has a much better triger. I like the old 3 screw gun best, but with just alittle work you can get the New Model trigger pretty nice. The Red Hawks just don`t have the feel of the single action guns. Go with the Balck Hawk.
