Years ago I made a comment here in a post saying I hated my ejector .45-70 barrel. I then got a PM from another member offering to trade his extractor barrel for my ejector. We did it. Both barrels locked up perfectly and we were two happy campers. The odd thing is that I never see ads in the Want To Trade for ejector/extractor swaps.

I would definately trade my ejecter barrels for extracters. I dont like chasing brass at range. I always take them apart and grind tab off to make them not eject. Just pushes brass out with spring pressure.

since we don't have dangerous critters here intha swamp other than cottonmouths ana few them gators.
we really ain't got no need for tha ejector. 2nd shot are barely needed cuz we kinda make sure that we hava true
shot before we pull it. all ours bears are honey kind and are protected by tha local authority....(ME)

and they are like our big kitties they run from you before you even hava clue.
some of tha shooters we have one time hada ejector,,, but there gone now.
only ejector style h&r we have are scatterguns,,,,,we done away with all our rimfire handies

We definitely fall into two camps....those who want extractors and those who want ejectors. I agree with both of you. I hate chasing brass. There's nothing here that's gonna eat me. Encountering a cougar is about as real a possibility as being bit by a rattler and struck by lightning at the same time. We don't even have poisonous snakes. Our bears, like John's, are here in numbers, but are seldom seen. Even our wolves are not a threat. I'm also too old to take snap shots and trail wounded game. One shot does it. Only one time in the past 25 years did I use a second shot. That was on a deer that dropped where he stood, but I wasn't sure he was dead. I put a .357 from my Blackhawk behind his ear.

While I do prefer extractors, I just live with ejectors... All the rimfire barrels, Hornet's, .30/30's and .44 Mag's are ejectors, the rest are extractors... I probably don't prefer one over the other enough to take the time to package and ship it off for an unknown barrel, especially if I know the one that the one I have is a shooter.

Great idea Pete! I'm wasn't thinking of the extractor/ejector issue, but any time I have sold a barrel, it was to get a different barrel. Swapping is a great solution rather than buying/selling to get the barrel you want. I check the classifieds often, but I have not been checking the 'trade' button at all. Duh. It's a great idea! I need to see who is 'barrel swapping' in there! 44 Man.

Pete, you need to put in for one of the Wolf licenses that the DNR has just approved. You are in the perfect place. Who in the world thought it was a good idea to re-introduce a predator species into an area where the deer herd is already thin in the first place?

Lewis, I'm not going to put in for a tag for 100 bucks. Anytime they attack livestock here, I get to hunt them for free. Lambing time is here and on the way home last evening I watched a cow licking off her newborn calf. The wolf dinner bell is ringing and the .243 is ready.

The Luce/Mackinac Counties area is open for the hunt because the two farms suffering the most damage are less than three miles south of the county line. They're only going to take eight wolves here. Season or not, if they do damage, I get to hunt them. I think the bulk taken this coming season will be by trappers. A trap hunts 24 hours a day....a hunter can't do that.

Great idea! I've used ejectors so much it's just second nature for my left hand to be behind the chamber when I open the action. Then when I got a Williams Foolproof peep sight for my extractor barrel, it was in the way of my fat little fingers pulling the case out. Rats, I just spent good money for Brian to fit my .308 barrel to my frame or I would seriously consider going for a trade!

I've got everything I need, the last bunch I bought were wants. All my Handi's are ejectors, I just like ejectors. Trade barrels, naa. Trade guns maybe. I only want factory fitted barrels period, and I don't change barrels.

I'd prefer to have the ejector over the extractor. I think if my Factory barrel comes home with an extractor, I would trade for an Ejector or get the parts for the swap!

There are no factory centerfire ejector rifle barrels any more, hasn't been since about 2007, only rimfire and shotgun barrel are still ejectors. There's no parts swapping to convert from extractor to ejector, it requires machining the underlug for the ejector parts some of which are no longer available or made, see the conversion info in the FAQs sticky.

I think with the ejector barrels no longer being made they will eventually become harder to get. So those guys who really prefer ejectors should get to work on trading for them now while you still can. I have two barrels with ejectors that i would trade for extractors in a heart beat! We only punch paper with them and i hate chasing brass. one is a .223 20 inch with sights the other is a .243 plain 22 inch. The little bit of hunting we can do around here different guns/barrels get the call.

would love to see that blackout pop out instead of PICK OUT. the only unhappy thing about the 300 blk.

what is the 7.62x 39 barrel is that a EJ or ex ? mines still in the box.
357 mag ?

I swapped a .223 barrel for a .25-06 and the new barrel is about 3 or 4 days out... I'm on pins and needles hoping it won't be a difficult fitting job...

While I don't prefer extractors over ejectors. I have to agree with Hoyt, on his comment about swapping a known shooter for and unknown barrel. The only time I sell a barrel is when I have extras or when I stop shooting a particular caliber.

Im going to 'fess up that having 'too many' guns is a problem.
Often the next interest take over and a known performer gets back row duty, then I mostly forget about it and/or start thinking other directions and decide to part with it (ie, Im not using it so.....)
Ive had to 're-buy' a few after premature ejection from the stable.

one member and I just worked a trade, swappin .223 barrels. I'm sending a SL 20" with sights and he is sending me a 24" heavy barrel. I will let you guys know how it comes out on this end.

I consider myself lucky that the .25-06 barrel locks up so well on my frame. None of my other Handi/Pardners will swap barrels.
