Is their any special way or product to remove cosmoline from your barrel before you shoot? Will regular hoppes gun solvent work? Thanks.

On the milsurps, we use degreaser to get that crap out of, and off of, the guns. I last used "purple power" degreaser which you can get at Walmart. Put barrel in a coffee can or bucket,  and funnel/surgical tubing or a turkey baster in the chamber, and dump HOT water through it, followed by some purple power. More HOT water, then go to it with the Hoppes, dry patches, then whatever preservative.

I've had good luck with minneral spirits, best to let it soak a few minits to disolve the gunk.

I have an old remington 550 that probably wasn't cleaned in 50 years.  Soaked all the metal parts for a week and looks like new inside.  Got all the crap out of it.
