My Dad carried a bullet from WWII until his death.  Claims of lead poisoning are bogus.  Incrementally  they chip away at the second amendment.....
Ben

Yeah. And before leaded gasoline was banned we breathed car fumes for decades. I don't see people dropping like flies from that. All this stuff is bogus science. I don't buy it one bit.

What in the world does a non lead bullet consist of ?
We have to use non lead bullets for hunting in Condor areas.  I once had a pig hunt postponed due to a Condor having lead poison.  The Enviromental Wackos think the birds eat the gut piles of deer and pigs and eat the bullets causing the problems. Found out the Condor ate a wheel weight at the Necropsy.
But I have All copper bullets for the center fire guns and tin or all copper for the rimfires.

Didn't think about wheel weights. Heck , with millions of cars clogging Kalif. freeways how many birds do you think die from that ? I think if condors are stupid enuf to eat wheel weights it's time to let Darwin take over.

What the general public doesn't know is that much of our licence fees and other taxes associated with hunting go to various wildlife conservation efforts. Less people hunting = less conservation funding. All many folks know about hunters is that Bambi's Mom was shot by one of us evil thugs...

Most of the areas where I grew up hunting are in the CA condor zone. One of the reasons I have two 17 HMR rifles is because there's an inexpensive, accurate shooting non-lead load in HMR (CCI TNT Green). Unfortunately, the current 22 lr lead free ammo sucks.

If the issue were only about lead poisoning, all the CA DFG would need to do is impose an outrageous fine and/or jail time for anyone leaving a gut pile or dead animal un-burried. Anyone who doesn't heed that kind of penalty isn't going to worry about buying lead ammo either.

Although I hate this anti-lead crap and all other back door gun control, the mandated use of lead-free ammo for hunting really isn't usually the financial burden many make it out to be (one exception would of course be if no lead-free bullets were produced for your particular rifle) Ammo is only a minor part of the cost of the average hunt, all things considered. Best to get used to the idea; I imagine all hunting with lead will be banned nation-wide some day soon.

But what about the poor kid who wants to plink with his 22 ? or Air rifle ?

All many folks know about hunters is that Bambi's Mom was shot by one of us evil thugs...Remember that in Africa where they outlawed hunting, game disapeared as economic factors had people poisoning and eating everything around that messed with their live stock.

Yep but there was a year that the only lead free ammo was center fire and 22 mag.   And one of the key features of the 17 for varmint hunting was the disintigration of the bullet if it hits a rock and not zing off like 22 ammo does.  And yes the tin 22 lr ammo sucks and 1/3rds the range.

If the issue were only about lead poisoning, all the CA DFG would need to do is impose an outrageous fine and/or jail time for anyone leaving a gut pile or dead animal un-burried. Anyone who doesn't heed that kind of penalty isn't going to worry about buying lead ammo either.  True, But they also claim that wounded animals excape andthe condors eat the lead in wounded Quail, Dove, and other small game hit with a shot gun.  The argument worked for ducks and the size of the shot  that the ducks were using in their craw to grind their food.  Ducks do not have teeth so they pick up small rocks and eat them to help grind up the food,  The idea was that he ducks and other wild life was picking up lead shot from the water water floor and the #4 and #2 shot was the perfect size that the ducks want and they were grinding up the lead in theri stomach and poisoning them selfs.  Still not sure it is true but like all psudo science it sounds good.

Best to get used to the idea; I imagine all hunting with lead will be banned nation-wide some day soon.  While I often agree with this statement, any addition to the cost of hunting will diminish the amount of hunting.  And if no one loads for your caliber then add the cost of a new rifle to the cost of the trip.

Forget the kids.... I currently own 19 .22 lr's and about as many airguns!  >:(

CA has not yet restricted (far as I know) any lead bullets/airgun pellets for target shooting. I regularly use lead for target shooting within the condor zone in the National Forests. I expect the bastards in Sacramento to try and make "progress" in restricting lead on public land though, citing phony environmental concerns.

I've seen exactly one CA condor in the wild that I could positively identify (might have seen more but they were probably just buzzards). That was 30+ years ago and he was way out of shotgun range.  :D

The condor zone encompasses areas where not a one has been observed in the past 150 years. They don't fly around with seagulls on the coast nor out in most the desert...

Yep!
Both New York and California are in financial troubles.  Still in their leftward brilliance, with recent anti-gun laws they are doing their darndest ..trying to chase out some of their most productive citizens.

Lead wheel weights are pretty much a thing of the past. Iron and aluminum have replaced them, Federal mandate. I'm not sure if it is even legal for tire stores to sell old "take-off" lead weights. Lots of fishing areas no longer allow lead weights to be used. Leaded gas WAS bad stuff. Even worse was the junk that California forced to be added to gas back around 20 years or so ago, MTBE I think it was, turned out to be truly evil stuff, but enviro-nazi's forced it to be adopted before adequate testing.

The feds have done a pretty thorough job of gettin lead out of almost all facets of everyday life.

Now if they would just"get the lead out" while protecting our freedoms!

Unfortunately, it looks like the Obama-lemmings have that move in reverse gear.

Unfortunatly liberals do not think that people will vote with their feet.  For some reason they think people will stay and pay the super high taxes.  Even the ultra liberal movie starts are now leaving to excape the taxes they said we needed.

Won't be too long before the enviro wackos mandate that one cannot take a crap in the woods. You will have to pick up your "deposit" with a plastic bag and dispose of it in a gov't approved container. Laugh if you want, but I see it coming.
