WHERE'S THE BULLETS?
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:45:17 AM »
I don't understand where all the bullets are? I realize we (us shooters) all ran to the stores and bought them all. But I have not heard of one store that has restocked. I'm hearing Homeland Security has ordered  a 100 year supply, and the manufactures have  to fill those orders first or face penaltys. They don't use .22's but all  the brass is being used to fill that order.? I've seen runs on ammo before, but at some point it was available again. I don't want to believe all these conspiracy theories, but I haven't seen any logical answers.  Your thoughts......

Hey you! Guy in the crawlspace 8) Start saving those old lead P-traps \ roof flashings etc.,,from your remodels and drag it all home with your copper and brass scrap. Buy yourself some Lee molds and drag the old lead pot out, get set up to reload. Trade or buy from fellas here on GBO via the classifieds till you get your brass and dies, read up on all the other stuff you need and start putting it together while you make some calls to find out what gunshops around you may have primers and bullets. Stock up best you can. This is what i did to give me piece of mind concerning whatevers coming. I'd have gone broke trying to find and buy factory ammo enough for long term use.

I feel that even if supply is resumed, all this will occur again and none of us really know when the plug may get pulled on the ammo manufacturers. Its good to be prepared, even if its a late start ;D.   Jeff

Yea, but that doesn't answer my question. AND It's pretty hard to make to make .22's, and I shoot 150 rnds a week.

you'll likely have to do like the
rest of us and ration your
ammo or discontinue your
shooting activities completely
or shoot on a limited basis
until the mess is cleaned up.
i personally won't be paying
the current bend-over-grab-your-ankles
price for ammo. i'll be practicing
pre-hunting season only and
dispensing with any casual shooting.

In my area(N.C), we have plenty of foreign made .22 available at 49.00 per 500.  Will the prices come down and the American manufacturers resume regular shipments? No one knows.

I bought a nice airgun so i could keep shooting regular without breaking the bank. Best of luck.  j

I used to think it was prudent to keep a nice reserve of ammo in case of some insane invasion from without.  Now I'm more concerned about the enemy within.  Without any doubt, the greatest threat we face is our own government--in spite of what that little North Korean punk thinks.

If you have a supply of ammo that you have acumalated over the years dont keep it all in one place, it will soon become one of the hottest items for the punks to steal when they break in looking for stuff to sell, the old DVD blue ray player is not a hot item anymore guns can be traced ammo cant and its value has risen more than firearms, Jim

Buy a red Ryder.  ;D

Sorry, but those that didn't plan ahead are going to half to change what they shoot. Didn't you see this coming. Maybe a self bow would work for you. Not being smart will cost you.

If you cast your own bullets you can shoot 38 specials for about half the cost of 22 rimfire. I realize you can't find primers anymore either, but I suppose eventually the panic buying will stop again. THEN is the time to get organized and think ahead a little bit.

A self bow is a all wood bow that a person can carve out of a tree limb. If you use the right kind of wood they work very well, are reliable, & with arrows also made of wood with stone points you can make everything yourself.  :D

I'm starting to see a few show up here and there when I start checking shooting supplies on the net. Found Hornady 357's online in 125, 140, 158 and 180 gr. Ordered 2 boxes of 158's from Gamaliel. My local gunshop had several boxes of Hornady 140's yesterday. Would have bought some of them if I had not already ordered the 158's.

I was in a walmart in Wake Forest a couple days ago, getting some tackle... the ammo cabinet was empty. Not sparse... EMPTY.

The panic started in December.  It is like a wave getting bigger and bigger.  Even the least informed are hearing about the shortages now and are adding to the panic and shortages.  It will take a lot of time before this mess is cleaned up >:(

The same will happen with the grocery stores when the next catastrophe occurs and then you will see real panic.  People can't comprehend things they have not seen before :'(

Anyone remember the toilet paper shortage back in the 1970s?  Carson told a joke on his show about the stores running out of toilet paper. Evidently folks took it serious and there was a run on toilet paper that actually created a shortage.

I was working for a major grocery store chain back then and our shelves were bare for some time.

Now when the USA runs out of TP it's a crisis. I mean most septic systems won't flush corn cobs.  ;D

Now think about that for a while.

Walmart, Dicks, Bass Pro etc are all mass merchants whos buyers arn't aggressively pursuing non U.S. ammo stock. If they don't have a computer stock number for it, it doesn't exist. Here we have two privately owned gunshops whos owners/buyers have aggressively attempted to keep ammo in our hands. They procured basically every calliber available by wolf, seller and bellot, fiochi and many more. Drive 3 hours west my friend and bring lots of money. You will go home well supplied, and with a much lighter wallet.  ;D

Hey BULLETSTUFFER, I think your statement is probably the closest to the truth. The part about the uninformed really says it. People that hardly even shoot are NOW rushing out and buying shells, depleting and already low inventory.

People rushing out to buy to buy ammo is (NOT) the problem folks! The ammo isn't there to buy. It's not coming to the retailers shelfs. :o

Give you an example! Walmart corporate office has given their stores the memo to stop ordering ammo. The supply's are (NOT) there. Got this from a very reliable source btw. The ammo makers are (NOT) sending it to them period!

The people were responsible for buying what the retailers had originally on their shelves, but NOT responsible for the ammo not being sold to the retailers. These Ammo makers are working around the clock producing ammo, and it's not going to the retailers in America. NOW! Where do you suppose it's going? ::) DUH ::) Or perhaps I should say DHS ;)

Perhaps this will shed some light. Hope the URL works. If not just go to Breitbart.com and look for the article.

Just copy and paste to Google and it will take you to his web page.
