My brother in-law thinks I am crazy for having bought an H&R. He condemns them as a "cheap, off brand", he doesn't think single-shot's in any format are viable hunting guns (he's one of those "spray and pray" type hunters), and though he hasn't actually come out and said it, I think he just thinks they are boring(his ideal gun is an big name AR that costs more than my car). Me, I think they are simple to the point of elegance, which beats out flashy any day, in my book at least.
Also, H&R doesn't advertise like the the other manufacturers. I have spoken to a couple of people who have never even heard of them, and because they hadn't heard about them, immediately dismissed them as inferior. The "logic"(using the term very loosely being, that if an H&R was any good, you would see ads for them all over the place, like the ones that take up some 3/4 of the pages of most of the well big sporting magazines(not going to name names, but you all know which ones I mean). You cant flip two pages without seeing ads for Remington, Winchestor, Savage, Mossberg, T/C, etc. Heck even Rossi puts more into advertising than H&R. they really don't get the press they deserve.
