Help: Need rough value on M1 Garand

Dear Guys,
 
   My father in law recently passed away.  Among his firearms is an M1 Garand, IH.   He bought it on the cheap about 20 years ago.   I think it was one of the Korean imports by Blue Ridge (or Blue Sky?).
 
   I would say that it is somewhere between Good and Very Good Condition.  No rust, but well worn.  Mismatched parts and numbers.   The only time I saw him shoot it, it would jam every 3rd shot or so.  He would cuss and yank bank or slam forward on the operating handle to get it going again.
 
    Any ideas as to approximate FMV would be appreciated, as it is being listed in the Estate Inventory.  Personally, I am stunned at the high prices of Garands on GB etc.

Difficult to give a hard and fast price, but I believe service grade CMP Garands are going for $600.00+, and I haven't seen any at local gun shows for less than that. You may want tp peruse CMP's website for more detailed pricing info.
 
I recall reading unfavorable reviews about Blue Sky's imported M1 carbines a few years back, but think it had to do with their import stamping at the time. IIRC, they applied enough pressure to the barrels that they were indented a bit. Not sure if this also applies to their Garands.
 
That's the extent of my "expertice". Someone more knowledgable than I will come along and offer more assistance I'm sure.

manny:  sorry to read about your dad.  As to the garand - depending on where you are located and even though the rifle is service grade and mismatched, I would place a value of $750 - 800 on it.  It doesn't matter who imported it or where it came from, it's a Garand and can be made to work right and shoot straight and for that reason it is worth it.  Good luck.

M1 Grands do not have serial numbers on all their parts. Those are drawing numbers so there is really no way to know for sure if all the parts on your rifle are the ones put on when it was new or not. Most M1 Garands have been rebuilt many times so that does not detract from their value. The IH were made for the Korean war era. I would also say $700 to $800 is a going price.

They rang from 2,000 to 5,000 i think but im not sure becouse i have a M1d sniper rifle thats wroth over 10,000 dollers becouse its all a reganal and i got it from my grandpa when he came down to see me

   I've advised that it be listed in the estate inventory at $750.   The list is just for probate and tax purposes, but I believe that this is pretty much on the mark.

I think that $750 is a  fair value.  i hope you keep it in the family.
