Ruger GP100 Sight Options
« on: March 28, 2013, 02:14:13 PM »
I'm about to own a 6 inch GP100. Has a scope rail and a Leupold 2x scope on it. The iron sights that came on this gun aren't to be found. What are my best aftermarket options for replacing the front and rear sights on it. Thanks.

Did a bit of research since yesterday and came up with good reviews on Williams Firesights and Meprolight tritum sights. The Williams sights look good but I worry about the fiber optics being fragile. The Meprolight are more expensive but there's nothing to break, plus they are true night sights. Only downside to the Meprolight is a lot of customers complained about having to file the front sight to get it to fit. Seems like a company would listen to the reviews on their product and make adjustments at the factory. I could file them like most other folks but shouldn't have to with a $125.00 set of sights. I can own the Williams for less than $50.00. Decisions, decisions. Back in the day, Millett white outline rear sights were the thing, I can't even find them now.

One thing , there are lots of options.  You mentioned " white out line' rear site ... Ruger does make a  whiteline site for the GP.  I have one on mine along with a fiber optic front.  I like the combination.  Then too you could put a Bowen Rough Country rear with a brass bead front... thats a little more money though. If I had the cash , thats probably what I'd opt for.  Maybe you'd like a Burris Fast fire ...since its already got a mount ...go for it.

good luck

Some 4-5 years ago I put a set of Millet sights on my Single Six. Still had the factory sights in the Millet box. Got them out and tried them and found they fit the GP100. I don't shoot the Single Six much these days so I put the Millets on the GP100 and the factory sights back on the Single Six. For a front sight I bought a 4 pack of different colored sights. The flourescent orange one made a great sight picture with the white outline rear. Went and shot it yesterday morning and am very pleased. Reckon I won't be spending those $$$ on night sights or fiber optics after all.

I know I was having trouble picking up the front site in dim or black on black situations ... after I put the fiber optics on my groups were cut in half.  I use a 125 gr Oregon trail pointed, cast bullet over unique.  At 20 yds , my GP makes one hole.  ( on a good day ! )
