Changing Uppers
« on: April 12, 2013, 04:17:45 PM »
Just bought a DPMS in 5.56/.223.  Two cartridges I am interested in that are AR-15 compatable I've heard.  6.5 Grindel and .338 nFederal.  My question if, can I order a complete upper in these calibers and put it on my DPMS, or will I need a different lower?

From what I can tell, if your calibers are AR15 compatible, any upper in that caliber will fit your milspec lower.

Now I know when you get to 308 you are looking at a different lower.

If its AR15 compatible it is probably the same cartridge length as the 5.56 and based on that cartridge case.

I have both 556 and 308  and they are not interchangeable

The 6.5 Grindel is AR-15 compatible.  The 338 Federal is based on the 308 Winchester, and an upper for that cartridge will require an AR-10 type lower.
