Change in stock quality on the classics?
« on: April 15, 2013, 06:08:59 AM »
Just a personal observation that raised a question. I have a BC carbine serial number HX (2007) with a very nice quality stock set on it. It is the best wood I have ever seen on an H&R. Its my assumption that the "Classics" (BC, target, and carbine) were intended to somewhat higher quality furniture. My carbine has well done deeply cut checkering and excellent fit an finish on top of it just being a really nice piece of wood. I recently ordered a brand new BC 45-70 and noticed a significant difference in wood quality. The checkering on the new rifle is shallower and wood isn't quite as nice and the finish put on the wood is not as smooth or as well done as the carbine. Thats not saying that the stock set on the BC is of poor quality, it is a nice stock set, its just not as nice as the carbine and not quite what I was expecting. Is this a fluke or perhaps was there a change in quality standards at some point in time?

Fact is, That is the way of the corporate monster. Cheaping things and raising the price until demand falls. They then have met their threshold on pricing.
