Model 69 Winchester
« on: February 15, 2004, 06:21:05 AM »
Saw a model 69 Winchester yesterday and it had the peep sight instead of the open sight, located in the same place as the open sight. My Dad had a 67 with this sight. The rifle was in good shape and supposedly had the original magazine with it. Only thing is that the stock appeared to have been refinished, but not sanded. Bluing etc. looked good. Think that little sight might be a rather rare find. They were asking about $270 for this rifle. What do you think as to the price?

Thanks for any help you can give me. I love old Winchester .22 rifles.

My newest price guide is a 2000 9R.L.Wilson)  and according to that they are asking top dollar as excellent was listed as 200 bucks My Blue Book is a 92/93 and that list it as 200 bucks at 100% since it has been refinished that would screw up any collector interest. The peep sight was offered along with open sights so it was not a rare sight configuration it could be had either way.  So it looks to me they want more than top buck for a gun that has been refinished. I would pass but it depends I guess on how bad you want it. Jim

Jack :  The $270 figure is at the blue book 95% condition you need to make sure the rifle is in that good a condition before you commit yourself to a rifle it was manu. 1935-1963 (all prices are from the blue book to elimanate emotion in the purchase) enjoy :D    JIM

Thanks, guys. I figured it was a little steep. May just spring for the old tried and true Ruger 1022 since I know they are bullet proof. Had one at Garts with the blued barrel but silver receiver for $179 and I might be able to do better than that elsewhere. Just want a good shooter. I may look at the CZs again, they are supposed to be a good buy.

Jack I cannot stress this to folks enough if you want a darn good shooter in a bolt action get one of the Romanian 69's they are reasonalble and excellent shooters. Do a search and look up Parralaxes site and look for the 22 trainer section you will find lots of info on this gun maybe it will help you make a decision. I have one and would not mind a other they are awsome for the money. Jim

Bob lets just say the Romanain is a poor cousin to the CZ. Not as pretty and in a trainer configuration yet shoots as well with a military style trigger that can be worked on for a good trigger. I shoot mine stock and get excellent groups. I call it a poor cousin because one is Chech the other romanian but both shoot excellent. The cz's are nicer looking and have a sporting trigger while the trainer has a military style trigger but that can be over come with a little work. Either gun you cannot go wrong and if money is a consideration the Romanian is a great buy. Jim

CZ .22 rifles and hammer-forged Ruger
« Reply #7 on: March 06, 2004, 05:19:57 AM »
They have a store in Spokane that sells the CZ trainers, one with the real long barrel, for around $250. I have definitely considered one. How about the heavy hammer forged barreled Ruger with the laminate stock? They have one on consignment at $240 which looks like it has never been shot. A friend thinks I should spring for it and later tune it up with trigger, etc. What do you think as your experience is far above mine on this. Price seems real good on this Ruger if they are a reasonable shooter. Would still have to spring for a scope, though.
