   Thanks for your comments on my post re hot pursuit.  You are absolutely correct that in theory, the exact same restictions (imposed by the Bill of Rights) apply to hot pursuit in both Texas and New York.   Problem is, these states are in different Federal Circuits, and therefore there are conflicting definitions and court rulings among the Federal Circuit courts (and even among the local Federal District Courts) as to what constitutes hot pursuit and unreasonable search and seizure.  Every once and a long while, the U.S. Supreme Court steps in,  hears a case, and issues a new ruling, in an attempt to "clean up" the disagreements and clarify the law.  But, this only happens every decade or so.
 
   A good example of clarifying criminal procedure was the Miranda case.  There were so many conflicting definitions and ruling among the federal courts as to whether or not a person under arrest was entitled to be told any of  his rights, that the Supreme Court finally took a disputed case under appeal, and used its review to invent a "script" that has to be read to every person under arrest.  You won't find that script in the Constitution.  The old guys just invented it.  It had NOT been the law for the prior 200 years of U.S. history.
 
   As to game wardens, no, I am correct.  I have been practicing law for 34 years.  You'll have to trust me on this one.  :-)

Well my two cents...we are talking about bombs here, along with armed terrorists, not sure if many people can comprehend what it's like to be around bombs, but those people in Boston now can, and our soldiers can tell you about it. Our son says it wasn't fire fights with small arms or bullets flying around near so much as those damn bombs, he says something about bombs gets you down deep in your gut, cause you can't fight it, you are helpless. After having them go off close enough to you to make you deaf and seeing what they do to people that are close to them, it will chill you to the bone forever. Now imagine your a cop and going after a guy with bombs, you don't know if he is rigged, where he left them...well, you get the picture. So if something like this happens in my area and a person/persons are on the loose, those cops can pay me a visit and check out my place, and if they want a cup of hot black coffee we'll get em one too since I doubt they got much sleep. They did a helluva job without much sleep and not much real life practice, I think they did a fine job.
I understand about the good cop bad cop thing, and I also understand about feeling funny about people coming to your house with badges on, or checking your property out, but I don't think any of them were forcing their way into antibody's house. Most people wanted their place "cleared". There sometimes are situations where people with badges and citizens need to band together, they all ain't bad cops, the very few that are will probably be dealt with, and I don't think any of the cops were kicking people's doors off the hinges, anyone does that to my place has more to worry in the next two seconds than the guy their looking for. I don't think they were trying to gain enemies, they had enough to handle without kicking in doors and getting blown back out with 12 gauges from citizens. I'm sure they knew people were edgy and armed in their homes as well.

Yea, I agree. Shorts, flipflops, and a colorful Hawaiian shirt would have put everyone more at ease. Only thing is. I didn't here anyone complainin about'em. They seemed to just want the terrorist off the street. Maybe they just weren't payin attention to the uniforms.

Just a factor to consider DEE.  I grew up in a Military town so I'm use to seeing the garb....some aren't.  To me, it is whatever best protects the Officer so he or she ca go home to their family at the end of the day.

The police have always worn military type uniforms, including their system of rank.  The uniforms have evolved with time in both the military and the police, but remain roughly parallel in style.
 
The uniforms of both vary according to what particular job they are doing - dress uniforms, work uniforms, special ops/combat uniforms, etc. 
 
Considering they were pursuing/searching for a jihadist fighter I'd say their tactical uniforms and equipment were quite appropriate!

Had they not put folks on lockdown, and someone wandering around was taken hostage or killed, you'd then be screaming the cops didn't do their job by letting them outside when a dangerous fugitive was known to be in the area. How do you please someone determined not to be pleased? Guess ya don't ya just listen to them whine! Don't let em get to ya Dee. Armchair experts on everything are the rage these days!  If someone risked their life to save mine I could care less what they were wearing. I'd shake their hand and say thanks which is pretty much what the residents of the neighborhood did. So if they didn't have a problem why does anyone here?

Let me see if I got this straight........Cops aren't supposed to judge people by what they're wearing, but people can judge cops by what they're wearing???
 
Cops don't get to choose what they wear - they're told what to wear.  So if you don't like the uniforms direct your disapproval to the politician who mandated them!

I appreciate that Spirithawk, know ones getting my goat. I tied it where no one could find it years ago. These guys just remind me why I walked away with 21 years when I was only 47 years old. No one is ever glad to see a cop show up, unless he's getting his ass kicked. Then the cop is his buddy, until the cops outta ear shot.
When I started readin  this crap, it occurred to me, that I watched as the police were leavin the scene, the real people that were being subjected to the terrorism were "elated" with the police  successfully capturing him, and stood in the street celebrating, congratulating them, that they had caught the guy without anyone else getting hurt. So what the owner of the boat called in on the terrorist. That's what he's supposed to do. If he had been out "exercising his freedom" like some here suggest, he might have found the guy when he started stinkin.

Hounds ? Ever see what sprinkling fine ground chili pepper all along your trail will do to a hound ?
Well you won't have to worry about them for awhile and its very hard to get those dogs to ever
track a human again after that . The same thing that makes their sence off smell so acute , causes
them excruciating pain in a case like that . Old moon shiners trick I saw where it was used in
W. Virginia . Try tooting some of that stuff up your nose and see how it feels , you will only do it
once .

We as as Americans need to focus on the fact that there are a lot more factions out there besides
Bush and Obama who want to dominate the American people and this country .
Until we get a leader that is truly dedicated to protecting us and our way of life instead of acting
just as bad as these others in destroying us from within this will continue .
This is a result of trying to be all things to all people and allowing just anyone to come here .
And its both sides of our political spectrum doing this not just one party , that only distracts us        from the truth . Stop focusing on how your going to screw around the American people next
and do something about the criminals that your allowing to come in here with open arms .
