Handi trigger work suggestions...
« on: April 22, 2013, 03:51:11 PM »
Well as most come standard with an umpteen pound trigger, I am no different.  I have read the FAQ section and have seen some info about trigger jobs, but I don't seem to pertain as a qualified person for this task.
Any suggestions on where to send an action for a good 2 to 3lb trigger job?  I don't know if H&R/Remington will do just that service or if I have to perform like a new barrel purchase and also request this.  Thanks in advance.

Stew,
One quick fix is to apply a very generous amount of powdered graphite inside the receiver. Work it in by cocking and uncocking the hammer. Slicks up a trigger quite nice, but will get messy as the graphite works out around the trigger.

Jimmy,
Thanks for the tip.  I read that in the FAQ section as well.  Not for sure where I would find powdered graphite at.  Any suggestions would be nice, also I suppose you cock the hammer and feed it in that way?

Apply it cocked and uncocked. You can even squirt it in around the trigger. I've had a small tube for years and don't remember where I got it. Walmart, an auto supply store, or maybe a hardware store.

Most hardware stores or other stores, especially thoes that cut keys, carry powdered graphite.  It comes in a small tube that you can "puff" into a lock to lubricate the tumblers without binding up in cold weather.

You can also shave the lead on a pencil, which is made of graphite, and let it drop in your action where you want it I assume.

any decent hardware store, home depot, lowes,
or auto parts store should have powdered graphite.
i use it on the door locks at the house, and a lot
of other things too. a little tube goes a long way.
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Don't want to go to far off the thread, but I had 2 actions in for barrels.  The first was a Mach 2 that i picked up used getting 17 HMR, 22 LR, and 22 Mag barrels for.  Got this one back first, work said trigger was outside of factory specs and was redone.  OK, bought it used who knows what happened to it in prior life.  I was happy with it.  But the next day I got back my 35 Wln frame, got a 25-06 for it, and I had bought it several years ago new.  Only put 35 or 40 rounds through it and it came back the same way, out of specs and reworked.  Never tested the triggers, but didn't find either one distasteful.  Any thoughts?
