Mec 650 reloading question
« on: February 06, 2003, 05:35:29 AM »
Heyya Ya'll

Can anyone tell me what powder charge, and number powder bushing I need to replicate the winchester AA light target load, 1 1/8 of 7 1/2. I will be using Red Dot powder.
I know I have to change bars, but I do not know the part number for 1 1/8.

I had no shotgun misses or failure to knock down shotgun targets at winter range using the factory stuff and I want to continue using a load that approximates this as near as possible.

The factory light target 1-1/8 oz. loads generall run about 1145-1150 fps. The heavy target load is the 1200 fps load. Not a lot of difference in recoil but some especially to a skeet or trap shooter who might fire several hundred rounds in one day.

There really are several different recipes for this level in the AA hull using red dot depending on the wad you plan to use.  So since you are using the Win AA hull I'm gonna "make an assumption" you'll also use Winchester wads. If so here is a good recipe to use:

Win AA Hull, Win. AA12 wad, Win. 209 Primer, and 17.5 or 18.0 grains of Red Dot. The book says this will give you either 1135 or 1160 fps depending on which you choose. A #32 bushing is supposed to drop about 17.7 grains of red dot and a #33 is supposed to drop about 18.4 grains. What yours actually drops you will need to double check as sometimes these charts and what the bars actually do aren't the same. Still either bushing will give a safe approximation of the load you shot.

I don't know the specific order number for the bar but it likely will have the numbers 118 in it preceded by whatever series bar the 650 takes. I think that is either a 302 or 502 but this is from memory. I think maybe the 502118 is the right one but double check before you buy.
