Too cold to ride or what.
« on: March 07, 2012, 02:27:48 PM »
Boy is this forum quiet. Must be too cold to ride and everybody is sitting by the fireplace.  ;D

Well last week the rain & snow stopped and we had a couple clear days. Even though it was in the 30s I pulled " big red " out of the container and rode the town loup. Down front street, past the breakwater, & out around the graveyard. At least I got out for a bit.

Anybody else been out ?

Like you I took a short ride to town and back couple times. Last couple days it warmed to near 60s. But got home to house full of grandbabies, and tornados last week. I guess I am just making excuses. I really want 70s more frequent I guess.

Lon,

I would like to see 70s to ride in too, but where I live that dosen't happen often. Even in the summer.  ;) If I waited for that warm of weather I'd never get to ride...  ;D

Well it looks like we will have 60s and clear skies for Saturday, so just maybe. I would like to ride in the 50's but my blood is to thin and I get chilled to fast, especially my fingers.

Yeah, 50 is my comfort threshold.  Been out the few times in the afternoon that it was over 50, but no communting rides yet as it is never above 50 without rain right now.

Here's one for ya'!!!!!

I like 70's too!! ;) ;)

I just put in a new to me ignition switch and did a little work on the airbox today. Couldn't stand it....I HAD to fire it up and let it warm up. Little too cold yet, 35 degrees right now. Unlike the picture taken some time ago, we're still dealing with snow and WAY too much salt on the roads yet. Wednesday of this coming week we're supposed to be flirting with temps near 70. Yes.....I am anxious!

It was in the mid 40's yesterday morning and was going warm up to 65 by the end of the day. So I rode the bike to work and enjoyed the ride home. It's suppose to be in the 60's and even a day in the 70's next week. As long as it doesn't rain it looks like I will be riding every day to work. Maybe even take an afternoon off to get a longer ride in.

took the glide out last night and rode into town to run sum errands. it was about 58 degrees and sprinkling rain. very nice ride. did remind me tho of why i now ride a electra glide instead of a shovel chopper with no front fender like in the old days.dodging the roostertail of water off the front 21 inch wheel did get to be a pain in the butt.

Took the Fatboy out for a hard, fast ride today. The temps hit 50 so why not. So much fun!

Hay digger, bet with all those heaters you could ride in the teens.  ;D oh that's right I ride in the teens without heaters.  :o boy do I wish I did though.

Believe or not boys, but I still got cold last Memorial day on Grand Mesa in Colorado .It was 26 dgs.with a 40mph crosswind and all I had on was a leather jacket, and my jeans.I crossed 3 different strips of black ice in blind 20mph curves at 40mph and it was a real pucker moment for awhile.  :o :o :o :o  Digger

Maybe those "tire heaters" saved you on the ice.  ;D I try real hard to avoid snow & ice. I used to handle cold well but since I'm getting closer to seventy than sixty I'm getting soft in my old age.  :o

My friends at work have been riding in. My bike needs a battery so no riding for me yet. Unfortunately there are more important things going on, tuition, mortgage.........................

I only put our streetbikes away when the sand was too much on th roads surface. That's when I put the ice screws in my street legal two stroke dirtbike then I would wait for an ice or snowstorm. I went out in an ice storm and had the guys with the Harley stickers on the back of there pickup truck windows shaking there heads in disbelief. There I was flying all around. It's funny at 10 degrees I'm the only one riding?  Now problem in over heating the air cooled two stroke on those days. I really miss those days.

It's not bad as long as you dress for it. Once upon a time I only had a motorcycle and 1911crazy, yes you do get some strange looks when it's that cold out. :)
