20 ga Ultra Slug Hunter: Which recommended 'deer' ammo?

Hello,
 
Am making my deer hunt  plans for 2013,  and  it looks like I'll be limted to a restricted weapons area where we have to use a shotty during the modern weapons hunt.
 
For those who shoot an H&R Ultra Slug Hunter in the 20 gauge, 
Which ammo has worked well for you?
 
What would you recommend to newbie starting out? 
 
The deer I am hunting are smallish coastal blacktails and a big buck might go over 110-120 lbs.  So I'm interested more in an accurate load with a proven reputation more than how powerful it is.
 
FWIW,  I have shot an Ultra Slug Hunter barrel that was loaned to me, but don't specifically remember the load my friend used.  At the time I was shooting Remington or Winchester Forster type slugs, but didn't kill anything with them.
 
What 20 gauge slug load would you recommend to your dad? 
Or BIL if you were trying to impress them?

I really like the Winchester Supreme Platinum Tip sabots. It's their .454 Casull bullet saboted in a 2 3/4, 20 gauge shell. I've harvested deer with it, no problem, and they are very accurate in my USH:

 
Unfortunately they have been discontinued, but still show up on shelves. In fact I stumbled across 4 boxes today, they came home with me... 8)

I use 2 3/4" Buckhammers. Used Hastings before that. lightfields are the same Hybred style. I have heard Brennekke has bought the tooling for the Hastings but have not seen them yet. There is a ton of info on previous posts here also look in the slug loader forum lots written there about ammo for your H&R slug gun. Kurt

my wife shoots Hornady SST 250's in her 20 ultra, I shoot the SST 300's in my 12.  Never missed, never shot twice, never got up.  That works for me.  We can only shoot shotguns for deer local.  Range on both is far more than we would ever have to use.

These SST shoot best form my 20ga too!  ;) ;)

The Buck hammers are tack drivers in my 12ga, but NOT in my 20!! The Hornady's are AWEFUL from the 12 but GREAT in the 20!!

BUY A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT and go SHOOT THEM!!  :o ::) ALL guns have there own likes and dislikes.

My daughter and I have 20 ga. ultras.  Ours have been accurate with Remington buckhammers and copper solids, Win. platinum tips and Hornady SSTs.  With the loads they like you'll have an easy 150 yard deer gun.  You will probably find the SSTs easy to find. 

My advice would be to buy several different loads and fire them for accuracy from your gun.  When you've found the one that groups best in your gun go back and stock up.

Seems to be a theme.  Right now with the ammo crunch shotgun shell seam to be the only thing you can do that with.

Maybe where you live but around here all that's on the shelves is 20 gauge skeet loads.  Nothing else....

Bit of caution (someone will surely disagree) I personally stay far away from all copper shotgun projectiles. I live next to a deer processor, and have seen a few 12 ga. all copper hollow points that have failed to open, or penetrate shoulders! I know that sounds wrong, as youd expect them to still penetrate, maybe they tumbled on impact, but there they were in muscle tissue. Personally I like hornady and 3"er's  but remember, cheap old lead slugs have killed LOTS of deer in smooth bores, before our nice rifled shotguns of today. So don't neglect an ugly lead slug in a sabot if it is cheap and shoots good! +1 to trying whatever you can get your hands on to find a good fit. jmho
