New 4570 out of the box accuracy?
« on: May 02, 2013, 04:33:27 PM »
As stated earlier, thinking of buying a new Handi Rifle in 4570 with wood stock and iron sights. How accurate are these out of the box and what loads do you guys find shoot best?

First two shots with the brand new barrel I put on my frame went 1" at 25 yards standing off hand.  Good enough for me.  ;)  from a rest my BC has done .87" at 100 yards.  Hopefully can play with this new barrel some more and tweak it up slightly.  8)

out of the box? mine shoots about 2 feet low at 100 yds with the rear sight elevated all the way! at the midpoint its point of impact is about 6 feet low! so out of the box POORLY. Seems the factory put on the wrong front sight blade. have installed a small scope to try next time at the range and then will take a file to that front sight. I'll let you guys know how it comes out.

This was sort of out the box first 4 shots at 50 yards.

I replaced the rear sight with a Williams peep with target knobs before I ever fired it.  I had planned to install this sight from the moment I decided to buy the rifle.  These were with Teflon patched 230g round nose bullets normally for the .45 auto.  We're talking 100% experimental rounds with a new rifle not even sighted in.  Also these were shot off hand while sitting in a folding chair.  I know I can do a lot better once I dial in the sight and find the load it likes the best.

BTW, the 5th shot blew up a nasty, dirty and corroded old can of beer that I found in my house before I moved in.  I put it out at about 70 yards, compensated a little to the left and hit it dead center.  My grand kids loved that part so I promised to save up some plastic jugs to fill with water to blast next trip out...

Didn't have any problem with mine.  I originally purchased a 45-70 barrel (ejector) from one of the member on this board.  It snapped right into an older SB2 receiver I had laying around.  I found it to be really accurate.

I was so happy with it that I went out and purchased a complete 45-70.

I also purchased another 45-70 barrel and had it converted into a smokeless Muzzleloader.  Guess you could say I like the 45-70.

Don't know why, but the 45-70's along with a few other H&R barrels (30-30, 357, 22LR, to name a few), just seem to be inherently accurate.

A word of advice, BUY IT!  Besides, if you don't own a Handi in 45-70, you'll never learn the "super secret squirrel handshake".
"You are entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts." - Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan

When you allow a lie to go unchallenged, it becomes the truth.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.
