Maybe that store isn't anymore, or you're getting bum info, but the catalog is still available.

Dick's Sporting Goods can still order them.  They aren't as cheap as WM, but loads better than Gander if there is one near you.

I've stopped by the Walmart near me that sells the most guns every couple weeks for the last couple months trying to get a 223 Superlight.  They call the distributor and they don't have any in stock.  I've never been told they no longer sell them.

If someone could post the link to the Walmart distributor's inventory that would be great!

Interesting.  They list the 223 Superlight in stock but I stood there today while the associate called to see if it was in stock and it was a no.

Maybe they did change distributors? It would be nice to find out. Bluebayou, our resident WM representative member hasn't been online since last Nov.  :-\

If Walmart did switch distributors it would have had to been some time ago.  The associate called the 800 number at the top of the page of the catalog and the catalog is badly beaten up and about to fall apart.  I've looked at the book at various times for at least a year.

I wonder if the distribution is regional and not national?

Well, out of curiosity I asked the CFO here at the ranch, who just happens to be an associate at the local Walmart, if she could call Bentonville and find out what was going on with the "special order" on firearms. She was told that they are currently not special ordering any firearms due to the big issue over gun control in this country right now.
They continue to ship what they normally send, to the stores that still sell firearms and local purchases dictate what is shipped. Shipments are much smaller than normal as firearm manufactures are way behind in production.

If Bluebayou chimes in, maybe we can get further updates or clarifications.

Not sure what to make of not taking special orders.  A few weeks ago the same Walmart had several black rifles, a couple 223's and a 9mm carbine of some kind.  None of this makes sense, but nothing gun related does right now.

Jay's sporting goods here in MI has quit also.  When discussing the reason with the owner, it was stated that there's been a lot of issues with special orders being forgotten, lost in the works or flat out dropped by manufacturers.  Every corner of the gun industry has been going crazy and keeping up is difficult.  People were mass special ordering from him and then if they found the gun locally, they'd buy it and cancel the order.  That meant his people had often wasted up to 6 hours getting the order placed, only to have it dropped.  Finally, it seems there was possibly some people making orders under incorrect names, because he doesn't allow lay away on special order guns.  Thus the people would give false data, get the gun ordered and when they tried to get ahold of the person, they didn't exist and his only choice was to put it in stock.  Of course the real order placer would then jump on it as a lay away and have a year to pay it off.  Pretty bogus really in my book.  Too bad people just cannot be sincere and follow through.  Seems like doing the right thing is a limited venue these days.  8(

Walmart is pretty hard core about ordering.  You have to put half down when you order and that is not refundable.  If the back ground check is denied they won't refund for that either.  They only order what is in stock at the distributor.

I special ordered a Marlin lever in 357 mag two yrs ago at wally world, 1/2 down.  4 wks later it had not come in.  I was at the local gun show, found the rifle for $10 less than Wally world, called and talked with the same associate who had ordered it.  Explained the situation, her comment - whats the problem, buy that one, I will cancel this order - should have been here by now and then come get your deposit.  Had no issues.  My experience with Wally world is that it varies store to store, state to state.  I am lucky enough to have knowledgeable associates at one of the local stores.
