Unique request for 30-06 blanks

A friend's dad just passed away and got a salute.  One son is having the brass engraved with the dad's name & dates. They also want some ashes placed in each blank and sealed back shut. He thinks they were crimped blanks. Anybody have an idea how to close the crimp without getting an expensive star crimp die?

If I were doing that, I would leave the fired primer in place and epoxy a cardboard wad in the end.  The blanks from my father's funeral a few months back were roll crimped like a revolver round but much further.  I don't know where mine are or I'd post pix.  We split them up amongst family members.

Anyway if your dies do roll crimp, that would work too but I'd certainly add epoxy in the end to seal them.  If he wants to fire off ashes for scattering, a shotgun would be better if not proper...

stick the in a block of wax. watch where your shooting them though as im sure that wax could hurt someone

it would seem a nice pcs. of wooden dowel would serve nice. or a bullet if a dead primer is left in place would be a nice touch. Or an eye screw in the primer hole .

You will need something else in place in there even if you star crimp or dad's ashes will come out when someone picks it up and says "Hey, what's this?".  I would vote for a bullet or a bullet replica crimped in place and sealed with lacquer.  Anything you use that goes down inside the neck will need to be crimped or glued or fastened somehow to keep it from sliding down into the powder area and allowing the contents to slip by and escape.

The only use I know of is carrying dad around with them or in a drawer or table top. The blanks will not be fired & they don't intend on scattering the ashes. My plan was to leave the spent primers in place, funneling in some ashes & recrimping the case & adding epoxy to the tip to keep the ashes in in case they are carried.
So, does anyone know how to close up the star crimped blank brass without buying the star crimper that would never be used again?
