Dang It!
« on: May 12, 2013, 02:42:02 PM »
Sent my frame in for a 223 barrel.  Got it back last week, cleaned it, mounted a scope, and went to the range friday.  Right out of the box it was cuting 1 1/2 " groups with the fmj stuff I shoot in my ar.  Problem is that it has a ringed chamber causing sticky extraction.  The extracted cases show a ring about a 1/4" back from the shoulder.  Chamber reamer must have an issue.  Going to call tomorrow and send it back.

You could try a chamber polish before you send it back... the instructions are in the sticky if you have never done one... if it were me I'd polish first.

Under the circumstances I'd send it back, and be sure to have them, cover shipping.
Did ya get the trigger job too, if not maybe they will do that this time for your trouble (but ya gotta ask & document).

Before I did anything more, I'd polish the chamber as stated and shoot brass cased .223 Sporting ammo and see if it makes a difference.  I have a feeling that what you're shooting is military ammo.  Not recommended in the Handi.

...yupper, 5.56 milspec ammo pressures will expand those cases and cause'em to stick.
...there are many kinds of wounded, and only one kind of dead. Do it the Handi way, one shot, one kill.

I was using a brass cased (federal) reload.  WW748 and 55fmj bullet.  Book load.  I don't think polishing the chamber would help as the ring around the case was actually a ridge indicating the the cutter went too deep.  This ridge was what was hanging up in the chamber.  Called H&R this morning and they are sending me the return paperwork along with a ups call tag.  Guess I'll get to shoot it someday.  They patience is a virtue; never was very virtuous.  Anybody know who this "they" person is?  He sure says a lot of stuff.
