Twist rate check:
« on: February 20, 2004, 03:28:08 PM »
Alright Im looking to verify the twist of the Encore 30-06 24" factory bbl.  I see in the Midway USA catalog it is 1:10" is this correct?  Im trying to match the proper twist rate to a chart I have that says the 1:10" is supposed to properly stabilize 170-220 grain bullets.  I just want to make sure because I was going to purchase 165 gr Hornady bullets, but now it seems I should be going with the 180s.
Thanks,

165's will shoot fine in a 1in10". It is better to be a little on the fast side, as to being too slow. Now if it was a long range match rifle, then a slower twist on a 165 gr. would be desirable. :D

Okie, thank you very much.  I wasnt too worried, but I wanted to check anyways.  Ill stick with the origional plan of 165s.  I had chosen that grain weight because it is the optimum bullet weight in the 06 for muzzel energy.
Thanks again,
