My son and I met the wife and her co-workers for lunch today. We went to a restaurant near the Shooting Range. After a quick lunch my wife asked if I had brought the new gun. I told her I had. It's a Rossi Pump in 38spl/357Mag. Nickel Plated, with Black Stock and Forearm. The wife wanted to go to the range and shoot it. Due to the Mud, (It's break-up here, water puddled, and mud up to your axels) three piled into my Jeep, one got into the truck with Sky. Upon arriving I set targets out at 50 and 100 yards. Sky set up the bench with the Rossi in a rest. After I returned Sky showed them how to load the tubular magazine.
The wife fired from a standing position at 100 yards. She fired five shots all inside the 6" circle. Second woman fired at 50. Five shots three on the paper, one in the 6" circle. Third woman, at 50, standing. Five shots fired, First shot near the edge of the 6" circle, the rest (4) in the ten ring. Then she wanted to shoot at the 100 yard target. Three in the 6" circle, two just out. She was grumbling, lousy shooting for a retired Marine. She was upset a retired AF woman beat her. Forth woman, Young woman, new hire. AF Brat, never did any shooting before. She wanted Sky to help her, so Sky showed her how to load, then how to stand, then how to swivel her hips out and place her arm against her hip. Shoulder the gun, aim and fire. Sky had to help her hold the gun, she claimed it was too heavy for her to hold steady. Sky put his arms around her and helped her steady the gun. One shot and she hit the target at the edge. That was it she was through. She did not like the shock wave, and muzzle blast. Yes she was wearing hearing protection, ear plugs and muffs. The older women started razzing her, that she only wanted Sky to put his arms around her. She is the one that rode with Sky in his truck. All the way back to the restaurant the women the women laughed, and joked about how close Sky held her. Oh they were going to ride her hard over this.
When we got back to the restaurant, the women really started pouring it on the young woman. Then the wife grabbed the Silver gun and headed to her car. I asked "Where do you think you are going". Her reply, I've heard before. "I like it, I want it, Too bad, So Sad". As she put it in her trunk, then drove away. Sky started laughing, "Dad looks like you lost another one". First my Custom Bolt Action .35 Whelen". Then a Ruger .41 Mag pistol, a S&W 357 mag pistol, now the shiny 357 Mag rifle. She's expensive, but she is worth it, she is my best hunting partner.
I'll never forget her tipping her 4-wheeler and landing in a big mud hole. There she sat in muddy water up to her waist, soaking wet, covered with mud from head to toe, laughing and crying at the same time. Every time she tried to stand she would slip and go back down. Then calling me every name she could think of, when I put my waders on before walking out to help her up and out of the mud.
