Lost another one (gun that is)
« on: May 07, 2013, 03:07:32 PM »
My son and I met the wife and her co-workers for lunch today.  We went to a restaurant near the Shooting Range.  After a quick lunch my wife asked if I had brought the new gun.  I told her I had.  It's a Rossi Pump in 38spl/357Mag.  Nickel Plated, with Black Stock and Forearm.  The wife wanted to go to the range and shoot it.  Due to the Mud, (It's break-up here, water puddled, and mud up to your axels) three piled into my Jeep, one got into the truck with Sky.  Upon arriving I set targets out at 50 and 100 yards.  Sky set up the bench with the Rossi in a rest.  After I returned Sky showed them how to load the tubular magazine.

The wife fired from a standing position at 100 yards.  She fired five shots all inside the 6" circle.  Second woman fired at 50.  Five shots three on the paper, one in the 6" circle.  Third woman, at 50, standing.  Five shots fired, First shot near the edge of the 6" circle, the rest (4) in the ten ring.  Then she wanted to shoot at the 100 yard target.  Three in the 6" circle, two just out.  She was grumbling, lousy shooting for a retired Marine.  She was upset a retired AF woman beat her.  Forth woman, Young woman, new hire.  AF Brat, never did any shooting before.  She wanted Sky to help her, so Sky showed her how to load, then how to stand, then how to swivel her hips out and place her arm against her hip.  Shoulder the gun, aim and fire.  Sky had to help her hold the gun, she claimed it was too heavy for her to hold steady.  Sky put his arms around her and helped her steady the gun.  One shot and she hit the target at the edge.  That was it she was through.  She did not like the shock wave, and muzzle blast.  Yes she was wearing hearing protection, ear plugs and muffs.  The older women started razzing her, that she only wanted Sky to put his arms around her.  She is the one that rode with Sky in his truck.  All the way back to the restaurant the women the women laughed, and joked about how close Sky held her.  Oh they were going to ride her hard over this.

When we got back to the restaurant, the women really started pouring it on the young woman.  Then the wife grabbed the Silver gun and headed to her car.  I asked "Where do you think you are going".  Her reply, I've heard before.  "I like it, I want it, Too bad, So Sad".  As she put it in her trunk, then drove away.  Sky started laughing, "Dad looks like you lost another one".  First my Custom Bolt Action .35 Whelen".  Then a Ruger .41 Mag pistol, a S&W 357 mag pistol, now the shiny 357 Mag rifle.  She's expensive, but she is worth it, she is my best hunting partner.

I'll never forget her tipping her 4-wheeler and landing in a big mud hole.  There she sat in muddy water up to her waist, soaking wet, covered with mud from head to toe, laughing and crying at the same time.  Every time she tried to stand she would slip and go back down.  Then calling me every name she could think of, when I put my waders on before walking out to help her up and out of the mud.

LOL that sounds like what I did in my divorce. There was this H&K 270 22lr that I could hit anything
with. I didn't argue with him much about anything else but that rifle was going with me.
Of course he said no so the only thing we ended up nearly going to court over was that 22.
His lawyer told him to give it up she isn't going after your retirement or your 401k she only wants
that gun. We agreed on everything else but I wanted that gun period!
So I know how your wife feels about that, when a woman finds a gun she likes you may as well give
it up and go buy your own.

ROG. I lost a pre 64 win 3030 like that to Patty. I'd wanted that rifle for years. Finally I was able to trade for it. First day Out I had a gal jug accross the holler about 120+ yds. I loaded it up and Patty says, can I try?? She hit the jug 18 out of 20 times with a rifle she'd never seen let alone fired. BYE BYE. POWDERMAN.  :( :(

Powderman:  My mistake, it's a Taurus Model C38.  As soon as I can find a Camera I'll take a picture and post it.  Also It's polished Stainless Steel not nickel like I thought.  It is persnicikity about ammo, don't like most lead bullets, won't load them correctly.  Works great with jacketed bullets.  38 or 357 handles them just the same.  Looking for a camera.

It would handle round nose lead.  But any lead bullets that has a lip at the base of the nose that is what hangs up.  I reloaded a bunch of jacketed bullets and they worked fine at the range today.

I'm looking at it on the taurus site but it says " no longer in production, content is subject to change and is provided here for reference purposes only."   :-\

Nice looking little rifle!

Yea, that's it.  I just can't find one of the five cameras in this house to make a photo.

Yeah my wife laid claim to my Rossi pump .22. It's a winchester replica though, not the colt. I didn't mind much at first and she got several more added to her collection. But a little while back I was loading up to head into the woods to shoot and got a "what are you doing" as I was sacking up her lever action. Apparently  it doesn't matter who cleans them, who buys them, who fixes them or who loads the ammo for em nobody else can shoot em. Damn sure was a hell of a tussle but I cut out with most all the ones I planned to take but her brand new .357 blackhawk had to stay. I love the fact that she shoots and hell I don't even mind all the pink shooting gear I'm tripping over all the time in my gun room. Few of my buddies razzed her jokingly one day and all I could tell them was I'm just glad to see her make it her own with a grin while I was staring at my buddies wife struggling to handle the kimber .45 that she just had to have for her first gun because it matched his and was all the rage among the group they shoot with. I guess I'll be happy to fight with the wife over her pink gear in my way and which guns I'm "allowed" to shoot.
I hate when i miss. But when I do, I can always come up with a reason why.
