T/C Newenglander
« on: May 12, 2013, 01:18:51 PM »
I am sitting here writting out the check for a .50 T/C newenglander I just said I would buy and somehting in the back of my pea sized brain said that the New Englander was a shotgun.
Did the New Englander take a shotgun barrel as well as the rifle barrel and what Gauge were they?
Thanks.
McDuck.

Hey Brother, Yessir its a shot gun or available as a rifle. The one mentioned is .50 of course but procure a shotgun barrel and it slides right in. It would be in 12ga in the smoothbore version.  ;D. Jeff

if yer thinkin' on gettin' a 12ga barrel for it yer likely in for a bit of sticker shock. they've(just the 12ga barrel) been goin' for over 400 bucks on evil-bay. with patience & luck ya might find one for a bit less. luck & have a good'en friend, bubba.

OK not paying $400 for a smooth bore tube.
I'll find an old CVA or Cabelas SXS for a little more or less than that in a pawn shop that has been on the wall for a while.

rifle barrels for new Englanders can be found for 100 bucks or less so ya could buy a spare barrel & for about another 100 have it bored to smoothbore. due to the depth of the sight holes 12ga would probably be out but 62cal should be do-able. a couple fellers that do this for a livin' are Ed Rayl in West Virginia & Robert Hoyt in Pennsylvania. neither has a website but ya can go over to the muzzleloading forum & look around a bit to find their contact info if nobody here chimes in with it. luck to ya & have a good'en, bubba.

Most likely plenty of rusty bores you could find that someone would let go cheap. As said he's a good fellar and does good work.
