Sig 229/226 vs Glock 34 vs XDM

Hi All,


Amazingly the wife gave me a green light on one of these.  All seem to have their pro's and con's. The XDM and the Sig felt the best to me so far. The use of this gun will be target shooting and maybe IDPA/Bullseye once I feel that I'm up to it.

Any opinions?

In that case I'd go with the Springfield XDM 5.25. It was designed by one of the top competition shooters for his own competition use. Mine sure does shoot nicely. I gather you are interested in a 9mm, mine is a .45acp. In a test one magazine did on both the 9mm and the 45acp the 9mm was slightly more accurate.

Mastering the DA/SA on a SIG used in competition might be a problem. Certainly it is done, but can mean frustration. Lots of aftermarket support for Glocks, every holster made has a Glocks option. I would probably have another XD were it me.

I appreciate Sig pistols, I just wouldn't care to own another. High quality and well built, but just can't get past the ergonomics and the DS/SA action. Haven't owned a 229, but have owned a 226 and a 220. I found new homes for those. IDPA and Bullseye are two different animals and are better served with two different pistols. The Glock 34 would be my first choice based on my experience with the platform, and observation of hundreds more at matches and qualifications. Of course parts availability, factory and aftermarket, price and reliability are factors as well. The 34 would serve well in IDPA and informal Bullseye matches, not to mention an excellent home defense pistol.  The XDs would work well in those roles as well, but there's not the plethora of parts available, and cost a bit more.
