New Hampshire city sues Robin Hood, Merry Men over feeding parking meters  Published May 14, 2013
FoxNews.com   A city in New Hampshire is suing a group that signs letters "Robin Hood and his Merry Men" that make a point of searching for expired parking meters and paying them before police can issue a ticket.

The group, comprised of six "Robin Hooders," search the town of Keene for delinquent drivers and leave a note behind that says, “Your meter expired; however, we saved you from the king's tariffs." The note is signed, "Robin Hood and his Merry Men," and urges recipients to consider "paying it forward," The Washington Times reported.
The city, for its part, said the group "intentionally taunted, interfered with, harassed and intimidated" the city's three parking enforcement officers, the report said. The suit identifies the "Robin Hood" members and was filed on May 2.

One officer says he has been harassed by the group and another says he faced profanities and derogatory comments about his previous military service.
"They say video recording or talking to them is harassing them, but I don't agree with that," James Cleaveland, a member of the group, told the Union Leader. The group says the city is suing because the city is losing revenue.

I dont know if that kind of attitude is unique to New Hampshire . SeatBelt laws and all those kind of "high crimes" are for revenue. If it werent so, instead of chimes and lights going off, your car wouldn't start unless the belts were buckled. Its all about the money.

I have a problem with a City that charges you to park on a tax payer funded street.
In most cities or towns that have meters it is illegal to put money in a meter that you do not have a car parked in.
What gets me is I have seen police headed to lunch not pay in South San Francisco when the city is very agressive about fines.
The other thing I question is do the meters actually pay for the people to collect the change and write the tickets?

old shooter said it right.
it's about the revenue.
just like seat belts and red light cameras.

mcwd, it's my belief that the entities count
on an unpaid ticket so a warrant can be issued
and a car can be towed with a nice storage
charge tacked on. bailbondsman makes his.
wrecker company makes theirs. lawyer gets his.
municipality gets theirs. local economy gets
a big shot with all the money flowing.

How does a local economy grow?  If I get a ticket while having lunch or shopping?  If I get a ticket I am out about $50 to 150 making me less likely to go back to that area for lunch and spend my moeny there.  Instead I will head some place else like a mall that has free parking and eat and shop there that may not be in their town and not give them the chance to ticket me agian.
Once I got one in SF I started to use the count down clock on my phone.  I was getting there after paying for an hour and getting there 2 min late.  Did not go back to that restaraunt again even though it was really good.

oh i'm not saying it does.
that's they way t.p.t.b. think.
that's the only reason i can think of
why some of my neighbors don't get
hauled away, there's no money to
be made or property to be seized.

Right? There is nothing worse than getting taxed on something you already payed taxes on. I wish I lived closer to Keene, I'd love to feed a parking meter right in front of the meter maid for someone.

You may get a ticket that costs more than the fine for the missed meter.  At least here in CA you do.  Even though you culd make a 1st amendment case that it is a political statement.

When business gets bad enough and a few businesses close the city can get enough property to create enough parking. 50 years ago the meter would move people and let new shoppers stop. Logistics of growth and expansion to new "hot growth areas" have killed the parking meter. If a town has parking meters there is probably some growth potential there that isn't being recognized or someone has a choke hold on growth potential but that will usually just push the growth one property further away. ear
