Gents,
I'm looking to this wealth of knowledge that exists out there, especially those of you who have gone through this exercise. I would like suggestions on a scope, to be used for varmints (Savage 10/.223). My thoughts were going along with Leupold and Bushnell? The prices made my eyeballs roll back in my head, as I haven't bought a scope in MANY years. Is there an on-line company that may have better prices than anyone else. Thanks in advance for your help. ......I have had great results with Leupold scopes....both the 6.5x20 and 4.5x14 scopes in both the 40mm and 50mm versions.....the fine duplex or dot reticle work well but I like the duplex for field use........I would check a couple of the mail order/net sites and make sure the scope is the same....either the old series Vari X III or the new VXIII......I have the Vari X III and the new VXIII seem to be just more of a great thing......HTH..good luck and good shooting!!

Personally, I like the Bushnell's better than the Leupolds. I think that you get just as good or slightly better scope for less. Prefer the Nikons over both though.

If you have your mind set on a Leupold or Bushnell there's no doubt The Optic Zone has some of the best prices so there's no need to go searching too far.

With that in mind I think you can put your eyes back in your head when you see the prices on our new designed 4-16x50AO sport dot which is very popular among Varmint hunters because of the German #4 reticle and illuminated 1/8moa red dot which works great around dusk and dawn. The scope also features a fast focus eye-piece, fully multi-coated optics, easy finger target style turrets with click stops and fine tune 1/8moa adjustments. The best scope I have for not a lot of money is a Simmons 6.5-2044Mag. Shop around and you should be able to get it for $150.00 or less. Also, the Swift 6-18X44 is a good scope for the money. I don't think the more expensive 6-18 Bushnell Trophy is any better.

I checked out Mueller Optics website and they are offering what appears to be a really good deal on a varmint scope...Almost makes me wish I had ponied up some more dough to purchase that varmint scope instead of the Tasco 6-24x42 Varmint scope that I did purchase. Oh well, if the Tasco scope does not work out I could always sell it on E-Bay and look into the Mueller Optics...Only time will tell.

Do not over look the Weaver. I have three. One being the V24. Has the light cross hairs with the dot in the center. I would compare this scope to the Leupold scopes up to 18 power. 18 to 24 power - Leupold has a little more light grathering qualities. But you pay much more for the difference. I love the Weaver - but if you have the money - I also would go for the Leupold scopes.
