Will, when it was time for a new reloading bench, I gave my youngest son (in high school at the time) graph paper, a ruller and a pencil.  I  told him I wanted it to be sturdy and I wanted shelves.  He drew out his plan, I got him the materials, he made all the cuts and we put it together.  I could drop truck engines on this thing all day long, and I mean Semi trucks!!!!!  I guess I learned a lesson:  Be Careful What You Wish For!!!!
Good luck with your bench.
