How silly of octogenarian, Pat Robertson...  Of course, some of us wonder why people build directly in line wit a dam in eartquake areas..or on a sandy beach of a hurricane plagued shore...

"Why did you build houses where tornadeos were apt to happen?" Short answer is stupidity if there is a real threat that is known. But we live in a country where insurance allows us to build anywhere with expectation of being rewarded if we survive to collect for damages. Same can be said of the coast or in holes pumped dry in New Orleans or on earth quake faults.

All 50 states have had tornado's. Florida has the highest count, followed by Texas. So don't know where you could go to avoid them.

If there were a totally safe place to live and build a house, the home insurance business would be less lucrative.  However, I do think that sometimes too little consideration is given to local natural threats.  For my part, I would not be likely to live where tornadoes and hurricanes occur, but some who live in those places would probably not live as near a volcano as I do, nor downstream from a plethora of dams.  I guess we pick the poison we can adjust to.

Tornados are a bit like Mountain Lions. You can live in lion country for decades and not see one. An out of area hiker can there for the first time can be killed by a lion, same with tornados. I have lived in he heart of Kansas for almost 58 years. In that time I have seen four tornados actually on the ground (two in the same storm which were the first I ever saw at 17 growing up on a farm) and maybe seen up to ten funnel clouds. They can be terrible when they come down in a populated area but they are not common. Lightning and flooding are a much more common danger.

Well of course they can happen anywhere but when you live in a place called TORNADO ALLY you might be pushing your luck a bit.  ::)

I'm dieing to see a tornado  :o

Lived in Georgia's "tornado alley " for 7 years, never saw one, three months after I left, bingo.

We were at the Art museum in Denver a couple of years ago and a small one started forming off in the distance. By the time I got done scrambling around to frame my award winning pic ( funnel in the back ground, museum roof sculptures in the foreground) it had dissapated. :(

Lived in Virginia Beach in the 80's when a big hurricane was coming in. Taped up the windows and fell asleep. In the morning I woke up thinking I'd missed all the action. Pat claimed he saved us by diverting it!

PS- Dude, "man up" and admit this was a funny statement because "honest", I posted this for the humor, not to see  your panties in a wad. 8)
