Encore extractor problems Begara barrel
« on: June 22, 2013, 06:19:28 AM »

I took my new Bergara 300 AAC Blackout barrel to the range for the first time.  I shot through about 35 rounds of hand loads without problems.  These were 147g surplus .308 bullets, 223 converted brass with CCI-400 primers.

I then proceeded to shoot a different load.  These were 110g Sierra bullets, Remington 300 AAC Blackout Brass with (unknown) primers that were included with the newly purchased brass.  I had to remove the primers to size the new brass and then re-install the primers.  Shooting through about 20 rounds, five of the rounds would not fire on first attempt.  I would try a second firing and these five would fire OK.  Then I got to one round that would not fire.  I tried 4 or 5 times, cocking the hammer and firing.  No go.  Then after letting it rest a little while I tried opening the chamber and it would not fully open.  The barrel and frame would only open to about 1/8 gap.  I then removed the barrel pin, took off the barrel and took out the round.  With the round removed, I put the barrel back on at the range and continued to have a problem with it not wanting to open.

The extractor is on an angle as shown in the photo below.

Since getting home I have removed the barrel again for inspection.  The photo taken below.  I now put the barrel back on and the action will now open and close OK.  The extract rest on an angle when it is pulled out fully.

Questions:
A) Do these symptoms point to any particular problem?
B) If this kind of problem is known, is it something I can take apart and fix?
C) Are there instructions on how to take apart the internal components of an Encore barrel?

‎Is it really Zombie Max, if it's not .357 Max?
