What do you use to hold your ammo at the ready. Was thinking of this or maybe the wrist type. I live in the North West, so I think the closed type would be better.

I use one of the leather shell holders that holds about 10 cartridges for deer hunting.  I slip the strap from my uncle mikes shoulder holster through the holder and it lays flat across my chest.

I also use the plastic ammo wallets when I'm going to do a long walk and shoot multiple targets like in a dog town.

Good luck,

I hunt with an Encore. The TC wrist ammo carrier with two quick access rounds is always on me. Last year I bought a sling with loops made into it off of Ebay. It's pictured in another thread about carrying extra ammo.

I just put them in my shirt pocket.  I sometimes use one of the wrist strap holders, but still just put it in my shirt pocket.

First of all, I wouldn't use a leather ammo holder since it will discolor the brass especially if it gets wet.

I use 2 types of ammo holders; the kind that fit on the butt of the rifle and the type that fit on the belt and are closed with Velcro.

The kind that fit on the butt of the rifle, tend to move under recoil.  I make a small hole in the ammunition holder with a hot metal object, sew around the hole to reinforce it and then put the rear sling swivel stud through the hole which will keep it from moving.

IAMA I shot Contenders for nearly 40 years I probably tried most of them from every maker, and some custom.   Didn't like the wrist models at all, nor the buttstock models.   Had a few slings that had a couple of built in cart holders that were OK, but not fast to access.   Ended up using belt carriers most of the time if hunting something I could take more than one of.   When hunting big game I usually just carried a couple of extra rounds in a pocket.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Grumulkin, I agree on leather discoloring brass if it's left in it too long. I don't leave my shells in the leather loops more than a weekend hunt but my way of being absolutely sure was to buy some nickled brass. The nickled Starline stuff shoots like my Winchester brass and I think it makes a great looking round.
