Did I miss?
« on: May 03, 2013, 04:30:22 AM »
So I'm exprimenting with a clean used CVA Wolf prior to purchase.  3 foot square, clean backdrop with target placed in middle and shooting (2) 50/50 777 pellets, Winchester 777 209 primers, and 245 grain powerbelts.  After first shot with scoped rifle @ 50 yards    and not cleaning, second shot produced no new discernable hole.  After spit patch third shot 1" below first shot.  After another spit patch, fourth shot 1 1/2" @ 9 o'clock from other 2.  So I'm looking at target and backdrop with 3 holes within 2" after 4 shots.  Where did my second shot go;  exact same hole or complete miss?

rebAL,

Did you miss?  Hard to say, without looking at the target.  You have a photo of the target?  There is the possibility that the second shot hit so close to the first that the bullet went thru the ragged impact area of the first shot.  We all know that MZ bullets don't make perfectly clean round holes.

Clean the gun, and give it another try.

Probably the pellets. The first rule of accuracy in muzzleloading is to be consistant every time you load. If you will weigh the pellets you will find they will vary in weight as much as 10-15%. There is no way to get consistant accuracy using pellets. B-4 any one wants to differ...this is my opinion and it is just that, an opinion. It's based on 36 years of full time traditional muzzleloader gunsmithing, competition shooting, and feedback from hundreds of customers. RamblinMan
